DVD Problem.....need help!

I am having a big problem with my DVD burner. I have been trying to burn an AVI file onto a DVD, and it just is not working. I have tried NERO, and it just ejects the disc after it writes the lead in.....i have tried several other DVD burning software, and i get errors or it just stops, in every one. I can burn CD's just fine, but not a DVD for some reason. I thought it might be a firmware issue, so i upgraded the firmware this morning and i still get the same problem. My drive is a LITEON 1693s. When i first got the drive it worked great, but now, nothing, and i have not even had this drive a year, and i have not even burned a total of 10 DVD's in that time. Please help me as i am very lost and VERY frustrated!

Have you changed the type of media you normally use?

Have you tried to reformat the disk or to use another disk?

Drive, no. Disk yes....if it's rewritable.

I mostly use mine as a hardrive, with drag and drop capabilities and erase and re-format. These Re-writable DVD disks seem to go for months, then need to be reformatted, seem to lose the file system.... I guess you realize by now I'm not the best guy to explain this...":O}

In any case try another disk, more often the disk than the drive in my experience...":O}

The only DVD stuff i can burn is data, thats it, so i can burn dvd,s, but not what i want to burn, which is an AVI file. It is stuff i recorded with my camera, and now i want to put it on a dvd for some relatives to see....but i am lost as to why i cant do this. I am trying to use NERO Ultimate edition, which itself uses Nero vision.....it transcodes the file to NTSC, then goes to burn it, writes the lead in, then ejects the disc, and the program quits.....it is really making me angry. I need some help here.

If you can burn data to a DVD, then it's highly probable the DVD-writer's working just fine - it's really the same process to write video to a DVD as it is to write data to a DVD. Instead, I'd suspect the software you're running is at fault somehow.

The AVI is like 400mb, but when it transcodes it to NTSC it ends up being like 3.2GB.. I will have to write to NERO tech support and see if they can tell me what is wrong with the software.

this can be the problem. the ISO standard is limited to <1024MB per file, choose DVD-ROM(UDF) instead of ISO

It is not burning an ISO file, it is transfering an AVI to an NTSC DVD movie.......and now i have more bad news.....i just tried to burn some data onto a DVD...and no luck...burn failed. So i have written an email to LITEON support asking what i can do about this problem, or if my drive is just dead. All i know is that this sucks out loud!!!!
