A very high & loud tone upon PC shut down

yeah.....it happend a few times already. doesn't happen often but when it does its disgusting. seconds before the PC loses power while being shut down a very loud, high-frequency and disgusting 2 second tone is emitted from hell if i know where. it DOESN'T sound like a beep from the internal speaker. i would like to solve this mysterious problem since it could be an omen of a serious failure and... the sound is so gross... could be compared to an audio feedback on some event but this one doesnt have any fade-in or echo it just cuts suddenly in your ears like a sonic blaster.

I'd love to help. Frankly, I haven't got a clue.

If you turn the machine on for a few seconds and then turn it off, does it make the sound, or does the machine have to be on for a while before you get the sound?

Haven't experimented with short-period working conditions. To be honest, I go away from the PC when I activate the shut down procedure... The sound is really gross... I got some clues from another forum. Is it possible:

A) Monitor running at a too-high refreshing rate (running at 85 Hz; 1024x768; Monitor model is Hansol 930D running on a ATI X1650Pro Sapphire AGP GPU - I used the "Hide Unsupported Modes" while setting the refreshing rate, so I assume the refreshing rate couldn't be the problem.
B) Someone suggested that a 5.1 sound system could create sucha nasty noise. He's saying that from his own experiences also owning a 5.1 sound system. I have mine running on Creative SoundBlaster Live! sound card.

Since the sound isn't coming from the internal speaker (I doubt it's even capable of making this kind of sound), I am keeping B as a possible reason. It would be easy to verify if it's coming from the speakers if the sound would appear every time I turn the PC off. In this case I would just unplug the speakers and listen for the result. The problem is it happens randomly. Even if I turn the speakers off, I would have to do it like lots of time to safely assume that there was no actual sound emitted from the PC.

It's entirely possible that it is coming from the sound card.

Monitor I would tend not to think so, although I HAVE seen situations where a monitor would emit a very strange squeal when the video signal went away.
