Cant run monitor at native resolution

In need of a little bit of help guys, I recently purchased a BenQ 26" LCD TV/Monitor, I am currently connected to it via a VGA cable, and cant use the default resolution of the monitor (1280x768). Its a BenQ DV2680.

I've tried reinstalling my video drivers for my XFX 7950GT but cant get any results.

Any thoughts?

thats odd, under monitor properties is 'hide modes that my monitor cant display' checked ?
If all else fails try using powerstrip for setting custom resolutions / forcing things through

What happens when you select a higher res? Does it go out? Can you select it at all? No option available to change it?

When I untick 'hide modes my monitor can't display'. I can select 1280x768. But: The VGA outputs at that res. yet the monitor remains at 1024x768 (it flashes up in the bottom right the res when you change it, its locked at 1024x768 though) it makes it come out blurry, but at the correct aspect ratio.
