I have been using the Sony drives for years. Lite-on is another cheap good brand. If money is no object....go Plextor.

Sony just bought optirite. Not sure of the spelling. I have one and it is still a fast drive. I had a Pioneer for a bit but it was slow to react. Not sure who makes the Asus drives. STAY AWAY from the HP drives. I have replaced more of them that you can imagine.

I like Pioneer as their quite. I still have a slot loader.
Also have Samsung and Sony. All work perfectly fine.

Look out for new SATA drives.

As in "look out for new SATA drives because they are better?" Or "look out for new SATA DVD burners because they suck?"
