For a studio computer - what use do you intend to put it to? Do you already have a mixer? Do you want multichannel recording and playback?

sorry i said it wrong, that studio computer can come to home for some personal recording , then again back to studio, maybe not much use of the sound card potential in the studio , but about bringing it to home...
(what's the best professional sound card i can get ? )

There are plenty of devices that are USB run and require nothing of the sound card. zzound.com has some good choices. I know of 2 people that have bought devices from there and are very pleased.

Do you want multichannel (beyond two channels) for recording? There a bunch of good firewire based cards with high quality i/o on them. Having an external soundcard with it's own power supply means that the PC's (noisy) power supply doesn't put noise out to the soundcard.

With my external soundcard, I notice an improvement in the noisefloor when switching to an external power supply for the soundcard. Admittedly, it's only about 4dB, but that takes the noise from -96dB to about -100dB.
