Intel Q6600, 8800GTS, one HDD, one DVDRW, 2x1gb DDR2.

17A 12V rail, 400W.

Is this enough to power it?

It wouldn't be enough to power the system and definitely not worth risking the components over.

I don't know what's available in your area or your budget so I'll throw out a few that would be worth consideration.

I'd reccomend anything that has quad 12v rails. Single and dual rails is probably not enough.

I would think he only needs quad rails if he will be running SLI or multiple HDD.

You can get it loaded unevenly and cause it to distort the voltages. Even some of the better supplies do not handle this well.

Here is a good (but long) read on power supplies, that may change some opinions when making their next purchase. It is the reason I run the PSU's I run and always at the top of my list are quality single rail PSU's.

I say maybe. the highest powerconsumption is at startup and full load. how old is this unit and what brand?
I ran a q6600@3.2GHz, a 8800gtx, 2hdds, enermax liberty 500W for over a week 24h a day without any problems. the whole pc draws around 300W during folding and 350W gaming, but the liberty can provide 380W@12V and has two rails.

you can undervolt your cpu to save some watts for your 8800gts.
