Isn't it amazing! all those years on tape cassettes with people coping and robbing them blind, surely they must have come close to going under! Makes one wonder where they got all the money to throw away on this trash?

And this helps the legitimate paying consumer how?

As bluray rips are on torrent sites, this sure hasn't stopped the pirates.
Or inconvenienced them in the slightest (except maybe the 40GB uncompressed downloads).

This isn't a new DRM. It's been part of the Bluray specification for quite some time (like years). The fact that two manufacturers hadn't actually tested that their implementation worked correctly tells you something - perhaps that you shouldn't be buying from them as they haven't tested their kit properly?
