Quantum computing firm bags $17m more in funding

Quote:
D-Wave Systems has attracted a lot of criticism from computer scientists over claims it has developed a way to create a marketable quantum computer. But whether its technology will ever be viable outside of a laboratory setting or not, investors seem to be eating it up.

If and when I understand WTH quantum computing is, I'll send them a buck.

I wouldn't claim to understand how it all works, it's extremely complicated.

But, if it was running folding@home, it would complete a work unit in a single blink of the eye.

Are you kidding? It would complete ALL of the work units in a single blink of the eye! LOL

Exclamation

I've done a bit of research on quantum computing and it's pretty cool...
It's nothing like computing as we know it at all, but a whole different level...
Check out this pick of what one of these computers looks like...
A bit about Quantum computers and how they work...
Howstuffworks "Qubits and Defining the Quantum Computer"

Quick comparison of our computers and a Quantum computer...the diff in processing power.

According to physicist David Deutsch, this parallelism allows a quantum computer to work on a million computations at once, while your desktop PC works on one. A 30-qubit quantum computer would equal the processing power of a conventional computer that could run at 10 teraflops (trillions of floating-point operations per second). Today's typical desktop computers run at speeds measured in gigaflops (billions of floating-point operations per second).

Thank you for posting the link, MUff1N! Most interesting and I sorta kinda understand it. The tape wrapped around the gold parts really adds the professional touch to D-Wave's device.

That's not tape, cloasters. It's Quantum Essence Damping (Q.E.D. (tm) (patent applied for)).

4 Forests, 2 Swamps, 3 Plains, and 8 Mountains. A little expensive for 5/3 with trample, IMO.

No islands?

Why would it need an island? Does it look like it needs an island? No, it doesn't. It looks like it needs 4 Forests, 2 Swamps, 3 Plains, and 8 Mountains. That's what it looks like it needs, dsio. That is what it looks like it needs.

Ok, nobody get upset, I'm new to Quantum Computing! But would it take 9 mountains and 2 plains...in a pinch...if things were slow in the multiverse?

Because of that awful "klunk" when they changed tracks.

You've just saved me a fair piece of change spent on R&D!
(If only I could accept his answer!)
