Home Theatre PC Motherboard Shootout

Bit-tech takes a look at some micro-ATX boards, to see which would be best for movie playback.

Seems a little odd to me that they bothered to test audio performance - surely in a Home Theatre, you'd have it hooked up to a suitable receiver?

It seems that handling encrypted disks brings all the systems to their knees, so perhaps there's more needed than just accelerated video playback?

Does a store-bought dedicated player really do the job better thab a homespun rig?

It really comes down to the HD DVD player that's used...
The rigs we use far surpass what's really needed for the playback...

Thanks for that, MUff1N. Looks like BluRay discs lean on a system much harder than HD DVD ones do. Is there a commensurate increase in video quality?
