Oooo... I love this thread!!! The cheap PC.

In a single link, go here:

Chiefvalue.com

to come in under budget, you will have to go with a onboard geforce video mobo with a PCI-e slot for later improvement, 80gig WD HDD, probably no higher than a AMD AM2 4000x2, and 1 to 2 gig of ram, a single DVD-RW drive, no floppy, and a small case.

I'll see what I can figure out.

Your parts:

MSI K9N Neo-F V.3 AM2 NVIDIA nForce 560 MCP ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
Item#: CFCE00014214010060 $69.99

SAPPHIRE 100218L Radeon HD 2600XT 512MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16 HDCP Ready CrossFire Supported Video Card - Retail
Item#: CFCE00022614010060 $94.99 (after $10 instant rebate)

They don't sell the 4400x2, so here's a 4600x2

AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Windsor 2.4GHz Socket AM2 Processor Model ADA4600CUBOX - Retail
Item#: CFCE00042409010060 $74.99 (After $5 instant rebate)

Case: $31.99
RAIDMAX Astro ATX-268WBP Black 0.7mm Japanese SECC ATX Mid Tower Computer Case 350watts PS2 ATX12V Power Supply - Retail
ChiefValue.com - Shopping,Buy Computer parts and accessories,ipod accessories,collectable toys and model kits

The case comes with a 350w PSU, but it's most likely total crap, so a PSU needs to be on the list.

PSU: $29.99
COOLMAX V-500 ATX 500W Power Supply - Retail
ChiefValue.com - Shopping,Buy Computer parts and accessories,ipod accessories,collectable toys and model kits

Mobo: $42.99
JetWay JM26GT3-SVP AM2 NVIDIA NF6100-405 Micro ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail
ChiefValue.com - Shopping,Buy Computer parts and accessories,ipod accessories,collectable toys and model kits

The motherboard has onboard 6100, which is totally inadequate for games, but honestly, so is the 2600XT, so don't throw $94.99 in the toilet, and upgrade the video later.

CPU: $74.99
AMD Athlon 64 X2 4600+ Windsor 2.4GHz Socket AM2 Processor Model ADA4600CUBOX - Retail
ChiefValue.com - Shopping,Buy Computer parts and accessories,ipod accessories,collectable toys and model kits

RAM: $44.99
CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 675 (PC2 5400) Dual Channel Kit Desktop Memory Model TWIN2X2048-5400c4 - Retail
ChiefValue.com - Shopping,Buy Computer parts and accessories,ipod accessories,collectable toys and model kits

DVD-R: $23.99
Sony NEC Optiarc 20X DVD±R DVD Burner Black IDE Model AD-7190A - OEM
ChiefValue.com - Shopping,Buy Computer parts and accessories,ipod accessories,collectable toys and model kits

HDD: $49.99
Western Digital Caviar SE WD1600AAJS 160GB 7200 RPM SATA 3.0Gb/s Hard Drive - OEM
http://www.chiefvalue.com/product-_-...er--22-136-075

$298.93 before shipping. You can go better on the mobo if you can deal with the crap psu that ships with the case, but video is really not an option. Any card worth buying will not fit in the budget.

cool thanks for the list but my firend has a case psu and dvd drives etc. SO what im looking for is ram, mobo, Processor and VC. the 512 card seems fine for the games he will play and will run crysis etc. If someone can play it on a 7300gt 512mb card than he can on that 2600.

an 8500 has no bang. They are virtually bang-free.

I would go for this board:
Newegg.com - BIOSTAR TFORCE TF520-A2 AM2 NVIDIA nForce 520 MCP ATX AMD Motherboard - Retail

For video, the 2600XT is likely the best you can do for under $100. If you can stretch the budget though, this is a ridiculous deal:
Newegg.com - XFX PVT88SFDF4 GeForce 8800GS 384MB 192-bit GDDR3 PCI Express 2.0 x16 HDCP Ready SLI Supported Video Card - Retail
I'd say its probably like 2-3 times faster than the 2600XT.

What PSU is he getting? He can save a little bit and get this one:
Newegg.com - CORSAIR CMPSU-450VX ATX12V V2.2 450W Power Supply 90 - 264 V UL, CUL, CE, CB, FCC Class B, TUV, CCC, C-tick - Retail
It can power any single video card system and the build quality is superb.

The Kentsfield will out perform the Phenom by a pretty decent margin at stock speeds and they have yet to get the Phenom to clock to any reasonable speeds.

If his main interest is gaming I would spend a little more on the video card, The 3870 is about the best bang for the buck going right now coming in at less than 200 shipped with 512MB GDDR4. Pair it up with as much memory as you can stuff in with a midrange C2D and it will perform quite well.

My thing is a Allendale better than a X2. Lets say a +5200 2.7 brisabne core 65watt 65nm comes at like 109.99 and a Core 2 Duo E4500 Allendale 2.2GHz LGA 775 65W 800mhz fsb goes for 124.99

For gaming Quad-Core is pointless at the moment. Any game thats remotely intense is GPU-limited, especially when we're talking single GPU.

The gaming CPU king right now is that E8400 which can do 4Gs on air easily.

The 5700+ and E4500 would be close to being equals, the E4500 would be a little better in calcualtion type apps, (folding etc) but it would be a small margin..
