OCC has written a dissertation on the virtues of PSUs. Dan the Man reviews E-Power’s EP-2KW PSU. If you haven’t guessed already, it’s a 2000W power supply.

We need larger capacity PSU's as time rolls on. Something not greener with this picture.

Sorry but I just can't see myself buying a 2Kw PSU. When the day comes my 750 isn't enough I'll stick with what I have.

There's something very wrong here...

The spec plate on the device claims it requires 6A at 100V (600W) and 3A at 240V (720W). I presume that they've just copied it from an old PSU and not updated those figures. The article states 110-240Vac 10/5A, which corresponds to 1100W. Assuming 80% efficiency and 110V AC, the PSU would need about 22A when fully loaded - no wonder it has two plugs, when the standard fitting is only rated for 15A.

I only just got an 850w PSU. The day i need 2kw is the day i wanna run 2 Quad-SLI, 10 HDD systems from one PSU and still have enough to spare to run the rest of the house.

What a poor review. Lets test a 2kW PSU with a system that doesn't use 300W under full load. On top of that lets not include any ripple testing. They could have used this testing procedure on an Earthwatts 380W ($30 AR) and gotten the exact same results.

At $699, notwithstanding all of the evidence pointing towards "lemon, bs, no effing way" this is quite a steal.

Let's not forget that for most people the 2kW figure is mostly hypothetical. Unless you have 20A circuits in your house (usual is 15A afaik) you can't even come close to using that much electricity assuming 80% efficiency.

Of course even an overclocked octocore machine with quad sli 8800s would be easily powered by a 1.2kW PSU. You could also get that 1.2kW PSU from a manufacturer with a better rep than Tagan/ePower. I'll wait until a legitimate site like jonnyguru or hardOCP (they have load testers and riplle measurements) tests this beast.
