Stumped-need your help

I am out of ideas as to a next step in getting this computer to boot. Any ideas are welcome. Hardware:
Tyan Trinity 400 s1854 motherboard
Celeron 1.2 or Plll 733
A couple of different PSU's as well as vid cards-PCI and AGP.
Mobo manual says it is picky about memory and states Brands that are acceptable. I have 3 stks Micron, on the list, PC133. I've tried those with all of them in and with only one-also a couple of other brands.

Did any of you know that a computer will do absolutely nothing if you forget to put the clear CMOS jumper back in the default position? Who wooda thunk such a thing?

Back to the business. With every change I've made, the situation stays basically the same. Power is switched on-CPU fan spins up-USB gets power as well as the PCI NIC card. When I had the floppy connector 180deg out it would light up but none of the drives will spin up. There is no post beep and nothing comes on the screen.
Give me an idea-just a glimmer of a thought-so maybe i can track down the problem, or better yet tell me how stupid I am and exactly what I've missed! I'd prefer that.

Do you get any warning beeps if you leave the memory or the CPU out completely?

Minimal install, CPU, 1 stick of memory, vga only?

We can pretty much rule out CPU and memory due to trying a couple already. How many of the other components can you verify to be in working condition?

I have never heard a beep-not one. PSU is brand new. HDD is good-I put Ubuntu on it. I had done a min boot but with floppy- I just tried with nothing but video & usb mouse-no beep no video

My Old system had those exact same symptoms.
Ended up being a Dead Mobo.

I'm looking for a second opinion. No offence because it is so wierd. I've got a k7s5a rev.3.1 that I pulled in favor of the board I'm running now-Ep-8k5a2+. It's been sitting in a box for 6 or 7 yrs----it's doing exactly the same thing!!
I must have been very bad in a previous life

Take the battery out for 10 mins. And try again.

I thought I was going to owe you a beer. That made perfect sense!
I shut down my machine and pulled it's battery and tried with both the others. No joy. To add insult to injury, when I booted mine back I had forgotten a small detail. You have to enable USB support for the keyboard & mouse. I couldn't get in. It's either laugh or cry-I haven't decided yet, which ever it is you can be sure it'll be wrong! Just one of those days,

I wouldn't expect two boards to do the exact same thing, using the same vid card for both?

I've used different vid cards on each-both PCI & AGP in both. At the moment I've got both down to nothing-no memory-no vid card-no CPU-no drives. They still wont even attemt to post.

What is the PSU? What ATX spec? Both are older boards, the PSU may be spec'd later and not be compatible..

I don't have the specs and I'm to tired to pull'm, but I have also swaped out PSU's and the casses some of them came out of aint exactly new. 235w-250w etc. The Intel set has a new 385w in it but this run is the first time.

R.i.p.

I think it's time to get back to looking at the silver lining instead of the clouds. For those that can make it-I'm having a computer bonfire just after dusk. There will be plenty of cold beer but it's pot luck. Everyone bring something different. There is plenty of room so bring the kids and bring the dogs-they can enjoy themselves too! There's horse shoe pits and a covered gazebo. My neighbor has a little blue grass band, maybe he'll come over. We can sit around the fire pit burning computers and telling stories about the things our computers have done! (It doesn't even have to be true!) It'll be a great time!

You will never get POST without a CPU. The motherboard relies on the CPU to perform the POST checks! At the end of the day, the POST checks are just code stored in the BIOS. Thus, no CPU = no POST.

However, I think the board you have supports Slot1 AND Socket 370. At risk of telling you things you already know: There is a jumper that needs to be set (JP21) to tell the board which one of the two you are using. If you're using a socketted CPU, you need to remove the jumper on JP21. Have you configured the board with the correct jumpers for multiplier (J10-J13)?

Also, I'd recommend against burning stuff like computers - some of their contents are pretty toxic. Recycling it is better (although I know it doesn't necessarily look so pretty).

You are very close-but no cigar and that has been confusing me. My board doesn't have JP21. The manual says that some won't. That tells me that the bios must pick it up automaticly.
You mystook what I said and what I was doing. I knew it would not boot, but if at some point I could get it to TRY and fail, I'd have a clue as to what was the problem. I've taken it all the way down to nothing w/o so much as 1 beep. The bios has not complained. tells me it is not getting any info at all, wheather it's got all the componts or none and anything in between. IE: motherboard is dead. But I've got 2-the odds of that-well I just don't buy it. so I pull it and try and find where I've screwed up. And yes JP10 & JP13 are open.

Try this. Shut off power at PSU,
Push power button,
Turn power back on at PSU,
Push and hold power button,
Push and hold reset button ( you are still holding the power button),
Release power,
release reset.

It often works when a machine has not been powered for a while.
