Cool Just built a new "budget" machine

Hey guys, just build a new computer for a friend of mine who didnt want to spend over $1200 and he wanted everything (except speakers, he already had a good set of head phones).

Anyway, what I came up with:

Intel Q6600
2x2gb Kingston HyperX PC2-6400 5-5-5-15?
Gigabyte G31 (4x sata, GbLAN, 1xPCIex16)
Seagate 250gb SATA2
LiteOn Sata dvd/rw
Gigabyte 9600GT silent pipe edition.
Foxconn 450W PSU
Thermaltake Soprano case
LG 22" W2242T, 8000:1, 5ms.
Logitech keyboard and mouse

All up, $1170, and this system is off the chain!!

With Trend 2008 as an anti-virus and all the usual gizmo's running in the background, it pulled 11175 from 3Dmark06, over 40,000 in 01SE. It just blows my mind how much power you get from mid range components.

The FEAR built in benchmark, every single setting at Maximum, the LOWEST rate it achieves is 66 FPS with a max of up over 300.

Throughout all of this the CPU never even got close to 35°C.

Just thought I would throw this up because its not often I get to play with new toys . :-)

Australia dollar is different to the US, and I as you can see by the word 'budget' in inverted commas, i use the term loosely.

Getting there. Business is a bit slow at the moment. Still trying to get my name out there without much success. I'm going to try advertising in the paper and see what that gets me. Other than that, not too much really.

How about yourself?

I'm doing OK thanks. Lot of this stuff is just hanging in there and building a client base.

I can tell you this...I clearly remember a VW mechanic who gave me a honest deal in 1967... never hurts to have a cash job on the side if you can swing it...

You go Rondog, it's great to hear from you!
Yes, I can see how a person with severe financial constraints might see this "budget upgrade" as a slap in the face. Stings a bit at my URL, too. Such is life, so I've been told.

A "Budget" system by todays standards would be considered a very High End Super system just 8 years ago...
Don't you just love the advances in technology!

For the record, I am one of those people who took it as a slap in the face. Customer said he wanted a 'budget' PC but didnt want to spend more than $1300, and thats what I come up with.

Thats a great set-up. I spent about $1300 and I called it my "super-computer" and it still is. I'll never spend that much on a computer because I'm a budget kind of guy. I'm happy with my 20 fps in Crysis because at least it runs. I won the money and figured it would be the only time I would afford a super computer.

Where would we be without well heeled "budget" customers?

Without them budgets, lord knows what we might spend... =)

Foxconn = rubbish

Just thought I'd toss that out there, even though it appears I'm a bit late.
