Seems strange to make such a big deal out of such a tiny increase. The aspect ratio isn't a really big deal. There are 16:9 screens out. If it's under $650 or so and it's not some 24" monitor forcing a retarded-small native res on me, I'll probably buy it.

I'm not seeing the hype on this thing. Both Dell and Apple have 30" monitors with native resolutions at 2560 x 1600. They came out years ago, so I wouldn't be surprised if there's something a bit larger even. Of course they aren't even in the same price ballpark as this Samsung, but I really don't see the big deal.

They reckon it may be about $300.

$300? It's gotta be a 24" for that price. 1920x1200 is already way too much for a 24" screen.

It's 23 inch, so not that big given the aspect ratio - it's wide but not so tall.

23"???

Good god, as if 1920x1200 on a 24" wasn't stupid enough. That's just way too much res crammed into way too small a screen. Reminds me of the idiots who would run their 19" CRTs at 1600x1200 @ 60hz.

Actually <I> do that, but I also adjust my display resolution settings in Windows to 120 dpi. The result is that things appear about the same size as they would at 1280x1024, but the fonts use more pixels for each character, resulting in better clarity and easier reading.

The ideal DPI on a screen will mostly depend on how close you are sat to it.

I use a 24" at 1920 x 1200, and I can still just about make out each pixel. This is just the right balance for me.
