Post Can you say Number Crunching???!!!

This just blows me away on the numbers these worlds fastest supercomputers put up...WOAH!!!

Not surprising is that Intel supplies 80% of the processors used in these...

Just for a little perspective-

Folding@Home: 5 petaflops

Folding@home: Folding@home passes the 5 petaflop mark

I think this is just plain ol human nature, but even though my rig is just a spot in the dark, it brings a feeling of gratefulness and pride to be a part of something like this.

Even then, Daniel, that is "their" issue, I'll keep mine.

EDIT:
I started to look at all the numbers and it has my rank at 11,357. At first I went WOW...out of all those people all over the world!
But that doesn't ring right. That seems pretty high, for one lone computer just chugging along, out of how many thousands?

And this is after how much time?
The Roadrunner is doing over 1 petaflop a second!
I wonder how big the building is that houses this?

But thanks for the perspective as these numbers are over my head on understanding really.

The history I posted above has a small description of F@H. In simple terms, it is the world's most powerful supercomputer by FAR. OK, it's a different kind of supercomputer because it is a collection of computers connected to the Stanford servers, but nonetheless it outweighs several of the others combined.

It's just impossible to grasp those kind of numbers but the idea of F@H being a computer of itself, just different, seems kind of a normal growth.
