THE HARWELL COMPUTER will become the oldest functioning electronic stored program device in the world if Bletchley Park boffins can raise the funds to get it fixed.

Makes more sense than bringing back the Dinos... I don't quite know why...But this really pleases me... I think it's that the debt we owe our past is being recognized...that doesn't happen to often anymore...

A nod to tech pioneers is generally good. Wonder how many valves/vacuum tubes this grandfather sports? Think of the power bill!

Just think of it, booting a machine filled with vacuum tubes. Seems strange, somehow.

Interesting question! I suspect they have to make them. It's one digit, but that's a decimal digit, rather than a binary digit. That makes each tube closer to storing 3 and a quarter bits, rather than only one bit. So, three tubes are a tad over a byte.

Mebbe they could custom order them from Russia? Vacuum tubes are something that they still do, at least a decade back or suchlike.
