Older external firewire hard disk chassis with 128 gig limit...

Is it possible through use of software or anything for that matter to get past that limitation?

You could always remove the hard drive, put it in via IDE/SATA whichever the case maybe. Create two partitions, 2x100Gb or whatever you need. Put it back in the chassis then it should be detected as two drives when you plug it in. Not ideal, but should get around the 128GB problem.

In theory.

I didn't think of that.. I may give that a try. It's an older style chassis... but it's lasted a lot longer than the newer ones.
