Is this a top of the line PSU? Or is it just trying to look that way?

It's 80 Plus Gold certified, which is good.

80 PLUS - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It means this PSU is about 87% to 90% efficient, so only about 10% of input energy is wasted, to heat for example.

A cheapo power supply rated at say 500 watts may well consume 500 watts, but could be very inefficient, let's say, providing only 350 watts of power to the computer.

Also, a waste of electricity.

Does "80 plus gold" mean anything about longevity and quality of components? Never mind me. Crabby Monday attitude.
