Creative Blaster 52X Problems

I know 3 of those drives that don't work. One of them is in my friends computer, and when you put in a cd, it tries to read it then spits it out. After cleaning it, it was able to read 1 cd then no more after that. Another one just doesn't read anything, but constantly keeps trying. The other one died long time ago. I have no idea what to do....

Any ideas?

Unfortunately, Creative doesn't build CD drives worth considering. Far too many unhappy Creative CD Drive customer's.

Thanks for the input! I've managed to get the drive to see the files, and read some of them on my system, but still no go on his. The only thing I can think of right now is using a different cable on his system, because right now he has ATA33, and I use ATA66/100 on mine. Shouldn't make a difference, but who knows....

ATA33 is about the best it will do, I was thinking it was having other issues with DMAand maybe setting it to like PIO4 mode would help...

I think i have found the problem- all of the bad drives that i have can READ acd durring windows install- thats because just the standard Oakwood drivers are loaded- when xp loads it loads a different set of drivers- so im going to go home- remove the cdrom drivers and put the oakwood ones on and it should work-

ouch

A couple of buddies had purchased creative 52X cdroms and both had to return them to the store for exchange. One guy had so many intermittent read problems that he junked it and went to an Asus 50X(that's what I use). He has since taken that creative and continually throws it out the back door to scare the skunks away when they get in the backyard.

I feel so bad for all those people that don't enjoy hockey or don't cheer for the Toronto Maple Leafs. Imagine a whole state full of Nascar-loving, basketball freaks that are getting behind the Hurricanes and don't know a damn thing about icing or offside AND thinking that their team is going to the show. It's going to be a short series folks and you'll be back at the big oval in no time.

GO LEAFS GO!!
