From what I read, SSD life is typically on the order of three to four years. Since I'm used to ten plus years from a mechanical drive, those numbers don't endear me to SSD !

Well, hopefully the owner reports I've read are the exception, but it's not very encouraging. I needed a larger CF card and learned there are plenty of high capacity chips produced in the orient that don't seem particularly reliable. I chose to buy a used smaller capacity card by a highly reliable manufacturer. I'm presuming the SSDs are built out of the same chips and so I can easily believe there could be issues.
