upgrade

I was just wondering if anyone could give me some advice on an upgrade that I'm thinking of getting fairly soon (when i get paid for doing some stoopid database....)

Basically, my machine currently is in its zombie state. Another year, and it'll be dead, either from old age or from me bashing it to pieces whilst getting annoyed off at it blue screening eevry 5 minutes.

Firstly, I'd just like to point out that my budget will probably be around £300-350 seeing as I'm a poor 17 yr old student. I know this is pretty tight, which is why I need advice......

My current machine spec is in my signature, and I expect to carry on purchasing another AMD again (never really been an Intel man myself...too expensive for my student needs). However, my main concern is about the mobo and the graphics card which I'll need to buy (intending for a complete overhaul). Having looked at Overclockers UK (http://www.overclockers.co.uk/acatal...undles_40.html) the "Leadtek Winfast Twinforce 2 DDR/Leadtek GF4 Ti4200/AMD Athlon XP 1800+/Akasa Silver Mountain 2Q - Bundle" has interested me the most. Can someone give me some advice on this, is it worthwhile purchasing it? Is the performance on the Geforce card any good? Am I getting value for money, etc.

Next, I've been wondering about memory. Talking to some people online, they have said to me that buying DDR memory won't really affect my speed that much, especially with AMD processors. Is it worth buying PC2100 DDR memory or just sticking with the cheaper PC133 alternative?

Finally, the case. Being a teenager, and one that obviously wants to look cool(?) I've been seriously looking into the market of buying a black coloured case. Firstly, are there any cheap ones out there that contain some room for exhaust and intake fans (as the machine will obviously get hot now)? Secondly, does the colour affect the overall heat of the computer. From basic thermal physics, black will always conduct heat easier, will this make any difference on the case? And finally, if I can't afford to buy a decent enough case, and have to buy a bog standard biege coloured case, would it be feasible to paint it later on? How easy is this?

Sorry for the lengthy post and lots of questions. Just I need lots of answered before I spend £300 on a cack upgrade

Thanks!

Good questions.
I use a Chieftec black server case, which are relatively inexpensive... some come with extra 80mm fans, mine did not. It has two intake fan and two exhaust fan spaces/mounts.

The color would add nil for heat properties, unless of course, you had a black server case sitting in the sun, I would imagine. Mine runs the same temps as my old Enlight Beige case.

The motherboard will not work with T-Bred processors (according to the site), so you're sort of limited in upgrading.

Have you tried doing price shopping at Pricewatch and then looking up the vendor on Reseller's Ratings? Not sure what the conversion rates are from US to UK, though.

Still, I can only find one for about £80. Which is a little out of my range. Is it worth investing on a decent case?

Excellent. Cheers.

Yea, normally buy a new mobo and processor when I upgrade anyway, lets me build a whole new computer. I'm not too worried about what the mobo can support in the future. Perhaps this is a little naive? Meh.

Not really UK friendly. Looking to buy from a UK company to cut down on shipping, etc. But thanks for the links anyway. Does anyone have any other ideas if there are sites like this for UK vendors?
