What's the diff?

What difference would I notice with an LCD monitor that had analog only vs. DVI input?

Using with GAINWARD EXPERT GeForce 4 Ti 4200, 4ns, 128MB DDR Video card

Supposedly it makes a difference in image quality, but just how much of a difference is likely to vary from one monitor to another.

Generally analog will get you less clear colours and the possiblity of clock jitter.

DVI will get you clearer colours and no possiblity of jitter...

Clock jitter is where the LCD and Graphics card don't quite agree on where a pixel should be. It shows up as a few pixels on the screen that can't make up their mind to their position. It's annoying, and the reason I'd not buy an LCD with analog only.

On the other hand, LCD monitors have got much better, so it'd only be a problem if your graphics card couldn't generate a stable clock.

Oh, and analog doesn't travel as far as digital.

However, depending on the flavour of DVI, then your maximum resolution supported changes.

DVI-D Dual channel gets you 2048x1596 Digital
DVI-D Single gets you 1920x1080 Digital
DVI-I Dual gets you 2048x1536 Digital and Analog
DVI-I Single gets you 1600x1200 Digital and Analog
DVI-A gets you 1920x1080 Analog. (Go figure!)

A DVI-D connector can connect to DVI-D and DVI-I.
A DVI-I connector can only connect to DVI-I.

DVI also allows the PC to control the monitor to a much higher degree. There's fairly little in the way of adjustments when you use DVI, simply because they're not needed!

Hey! I had that exact same monitor for a week. Then I had to hand it over to a friend of mine. I owed him a couple of favors so we called it even with a computer and a monitor.

EDIT: It's a pretty sweet monitor. The speakers are useless though.

Boy, are they ever! I am not using them I have the same monitor (beige and not a +....no DVI) and the speakers are the same-junk!

Hey, I'm putting the system together now, I got an AGOIA XP 1600 this time, see how it works out on an EPOX 8K5A2+ board with some Corsair XMS 3200 memory. I'm goint to unlock it. I unlocked the other 1600 (AROIA) but it won't post any higher than 1750 or so and be stable, no matter what combination I use!
