Car System~

What would you build a Car system around~? Im thinkin of either VIA 800 all-in one- or the SHuttle FV25? I have 512mg Pc133 ram and a pIII 1gig EB with a few NICS (mabey bluetooth) - and a normal IDE 60gig drive-- SB LIVE

Should i go:

PIII- Shuttle- SB LIVE- BLUETOOTH- 512mg- SLIM DVD-145W PS- 20gig laptop drive- 6inch LCD

Or:

VIA 800- SB-512- BLUETOOTH- SLIM-145W-20GIG-6LCD??

Comments more then welcome

I wouldn't use that big of a drive myself. MY rule is, anything at 60 gig or over is going to require extra cooling.

I think it would be a good idea to run a decent sound card and use the "LINE OUT" to a line in of a good amp.

You might want to look at 802.11b instead then. Bluetooth isn't very good at fast file transfer, as it's designed for low power. You'll find that Bluetooth maxes out in the 500Kbit/sec mark (about the same speed as a 500K DSL connection), where as WiFi maxes out about the 5Mbit/sec mark.

The p3 would have significantly more power than a VIA based system. But then you dont really need major grunt for what you are planning...

How do you supply power to this proposed SFF PC for your car? Its PS is going to want 117 VAC, and ~~5 Amps behind it, maybe 10 Amps.

Are inverters for 11-15 VDC to ~115 VAC available? How smooth and sag-free/spike free is their output? I'm just asking.

Why do you need a PC in your car??

I'm usually too busy driving to even fudge with my car stereo

Yes, they are pretty available. The output should (depending on model) be pretty sag-free and spike free. Harmonic free they're not, due to the use of modified sine wave output.
