3.0 GB SATA and 1.5 SATA
Is a 3.0 backwards compatable? I have an nf2 based board and I want to change over to SATA for my data drives. I am thinking 250 GB or so. I want something fast.

The Samsung Spinpoint manual has the following:

'In some rare cases SATA 1.5Gb/s hosts can not establish SATA interface connection with SATA 3.0Gb/s devices due to interface protocol
issues. In this case the jumper may be installed as shown on the figure below to force the device to negotiate for SATA 1.5Gb/s speed.'

I have an NF4 board so I can't say for certain that these will work but at least the manufacturer says they ought to !

There's a known issue with some VIA chipsets negotiating SATA connectivity. I'm not aware of any issues with nForce4 and SATA 3Gb/s. SATA 3Gb/s is supposed to be backwards compatible with SATA 1.5Gb/s

That's what I gathered....I should be ok with my NF2 Chipset....

One of my hard drives on my server is Sata II. I believe it's running at standard SATA speed since the mobo is Abit NF7-s. Works great though, no issues.
