It's a nice idea but what advantages does it have over orginal m-atx?

Gizmo 11th January, 2007 10:26 PM

Apparently one of the advantages lies is the size of the PCB. Because of the way it is done, 4 DTX mobos can be made from one FR4 panel, while I suspect only 2 m-atx boards can be done.

it sounds like a good idea, but I wonder how willingly the industry will accept change. I think it was a wise move by AMD to make it an open platform. :)

Good point Simon, open platform is always good. Whatever happend to Intel's BTX idea? I like the advantages of DTX and plus it means you can fit more PC's in a space, which is a nice bonus.

BTX was pretty much a non-starter with the PC industry. It's main justification for existence was the increasing heat output from CPUs (the Prescotts). Now that problem has been addressed (at least for the time being) the need to retool the entire PC industry for a new form-factor no longer exists.
