Tiamat's plea for help thread.

Alright friends I decided to dedicate this thread
To all the little perks that come with a new build.
I have several questions. And I need some opinions.

First off. Are there any decent socket G2 motherboards
That arent mini ITX? I have a mobile i7 that id like to use
For this build to save Money. Essentially a mobile chip
For desktop use.

While were at It I wouldnt mind suggestions on
RAM and a GPU. I have ideas. However being that ive
Been totally absent from the field near three years. I'd
Like too see if my opinions can be slightly validated.

Lets start there and see what we come up with.
Mozilla/5.0 (Linux; U; Android 4.0.3; en-us; HTC_PH39100/3.26.502.56 Build/IML74K) AppleWebKit/534.30 (KHTML, like Gecko) Version/4.0 Mobile Safari/534.30

I'm not aware of an ATX board with a G2 socket.

If you use your mobile CPU, you'll be limited to DDR3 1333 memory, at best.

If you were to find such a board, it is going to be expensive, because it would be made in small quantities due to no demand for such a board.

Mini-ITX boards are also fairly expensive, for what they are, again because the demand is lower.

You can buy a new ATX board and good desktop CPU for not so much.

Why not sell the processor, and build a proper desktop system?

I'd have to say that it seems you may be trying for something that would limit your success...?

A place to start? I'd go to Newegg and search their "Costumer choice awards, they have both current and recent.

I followed for CPU, RAM and SSD drive, I went my own way for my motherboard...
but you will at lest get an idea of what people are having success with.

tiamat63 15th June, 2012 07:08 PM

Looks like I might sell It then. Heard great things about the 2500k sandy's.
SSD is already picked out. So in that case i believe i will be needing
Suggestions for a proper ATX board. Features are nice. Stability crucial.

And I dont always trust the reviews on newegg. That said. With Daniel's
Permission. Would It be ok to post some of the things I have in the for
Sale section?

For sure Dude! Bit broke myself at the moment, got mugged by a hardware vender! ":O}

I'm afraid we are a bit slow, I'd have to advice (May the good lord forgive me) that you finfd a more active outlet for your parts, Ebay or Amazon?

tiamat63 16th June, 2012 12:26 AM

Thinking about going the cheap way out and try overclocking
On an unlocked 3870 plus an HD 6670. Cant seem to find many reviews on
This combo. Anybody have info or experience with these apu/GPU combo's?

I Also found 8Gb (4x2) of g.skill ripjaw with great reviews
Less then $50... Used plenty of g.skill back when. Decent stuff.
That still hold true?

All I can tell you is that Newegg buyers give it very high marks.

4 x 2GB sticks?

4 sticks may not overclock as well as 2.

tiamat63 18th June, 2012 11:55 PM

No. 4GB x 2 sticks. I havent been out of It THAT long. ;)

Order will be placed in 72 hours. Thank you all for the help. I've made it out of the Washington, D.C. Area back to the Midwest. Building this new machine has taken priority now that things have settled down.

Does AoA have a current PC game 'flavor of the week'?

Daniel ~ 4th August, 2012 03:21 AM

Sorry I play games YEARS behind the breaking wave of new games.

l'll post mine if you post yours!

Sabertooth Z77, 2600K CPU, 16 Gigs G.Skill 2133, My trust/rusty Geforce 8800 GTS,
A new, way more than I could afford Koolance System and CPU Water block. I already had my Koolance Geforce Water block, just got it installed today!

(Wife inherits my old Koolance System, not that she's grateful!! ":O}

(Didn't mean to but due to a death in the family I needed a new) Corsair 750 watt power supply.

*That's about it and enough to choke me, but I'm smiling...":O}

Your turn Hombre!

tiamat63 4th August, 2012 04:41 PM

Lian-Li Black Dragon Lord Mid Tower
I5 2500k Sandy
ASUS P8H77-V
Haven't decided on a Radeon 7850 or 7870 - depends on price point.
2x4GB G.Skill Ripjaw 1600
128GB Crucial M4 SSD.

That's the basic makeup. Haven't decided on the cosmetic stuff. I'll determine that on monday. I'm using the 1100Watt Seasonic PSU I bought in 2008. Still a damn fine unit.

Daniel ~ 4th August, 2012 06:34 PM

From what I've seen on line the 2500K performs as well as the 2600K...you won't be dissapointed Forgot! I got a 90 gig Corsair.

I hope you have better luck but as much fun as I did...eventually. ":O}

Does your new board have the UEIF BIOS interface?

Depends on what you qualify as "new"... but it's listed as such. Yes.
