Ge-Farce-4 Problems...

I have read the other posts but I'm still having *MAJOR* probs with my new card.

My sys is as below, on a epox8K7A+ mobo, Windows XP Pro SP1.

Here lies the challenge/problem* *delete as applicable.

I recently upgraded from a geforce2MX to Geforce4MX440. (I know should have gone for a Ti...) but whenever I try and play games it laods menu screens but as soon as the action should begin, REBOOT.

I read about DirectX problems, so I *think* i've disabled then reenabled hardware rendering but it still happens

Should I disable, reboot, enable reboot, load game/madonions BM Prog and cross my fingers?

PLEASE help me....I Need to play spearhead and 007......

TIA
1 Very pisse* off d00d

Does it work in the games where you can choose OpenGL instead of DirectX?

You are running Windows XP aren't you? I have heard of this from others. XP has a setting that enables it to auto restart if it encounters a BSOD. It is not an auto restart problem. You are crashing when you try to play 3D games.

Try going Here. It is an FAQ. Completely remove the old drivers and registry entries from your old drivers. Then reinstall. Let us know how it works.

I don't know, I just tried it with Medal of Honour AA and Spearhead Expansion, no luck.

And Mad Onion BM util from the start....which invariably casues a reboot somewhere through the first demo (car chase 1)

I used the dxdiag and performed the Direct3D test and the DirectDraw tests, both of which passed.

Is there a way i can upgrade 8.1 to 8.1b in XP? I just ran windows update and rebooted and tried a Spearhead again, and again it rebooted. I don't have any other games that have a option to switch to OpenGL..... anyone got an openGL test kit and a DirectX one?

TIA

Next.... ROFL...

just a thought... i read in another thread, no idea which one, about forcing AGP aperature to 128 and checking the AGP1x or AGP2x or AGP4x, and there was a link to a prog that checks the speed, I did manage to force it to 128 in the bios, it did nothing , same reboot probs, so i changed it back to 256....

Any chance of someone knowing the link to that proggie??

I think you should still try disabling that windows auto reboot setting, you never know. You can find out how to disable it at http://www.anandtech.com/guides/viewfaq.html?i=86

One annoying thing with DirectX is that when you reinstall it over the same version as before, it doesn't actually do much, it only updates the files it needs to. Try completely removing DirectX, and installing it again (do a search for one, just make sure you get one specifically made for WindowsXP).

I'm glad that GF4 is finally working right!
I bought a GF3 Ti200 because so many folks have problems with GF4's. Oh yeah, there was the matter of the extra $40 needed to buy the Ti4200. I must admit that the Ti4200's outclass GF3 Ti200's performance by roughly 30%. Let's hope that the release of the GF FX's drives down the price of GF4's.
