In my main rig, I have a Philips Acoustic Edge. The mail server has a cheap'n'cheerful Crystal Semi based part. The other machine has a Santa Cruz card.

I also have a Terratec EWS64 lying around, waiting for a machine to go in. That'd probably end up being the audio workstation.

Funny-- my SBLive! 5.1 sounds MUCH better with Win XP's driver in place. From what I read, there are Soundcards that sound a heck of a lot better than the one's Creative makes. But they aren't cheap. Pro sound cards that you need for a home recording studio are multi espensivo. And don't sound as good as a SBLive!--in a few situations.

SB16's are a good card for their day. If sound quality isn't a must with you, the SB16 is just fine. OTOH, ISA is extinct and newer versions of Linux may not support the olde SB16--at least right out of the OS's box.

I have a Hercules XP gamer in my main rig, and a SB live in my other. Neither of which systems work right now.
