Can ATI 9500 Pro be O/C? Been reading through threads here and elsewhere about ATI Radeon 9500's, 9700's and 9700 Pro's, but do not see much (if anything at all) about what can be done to an ATI Radeon 9500 Pro 128M card to improve performance. Being new at this is some excuse (not much I agree) but I already have this card and am happy with it (so is my 13-year old son), so I do not want to replace it after just 6 weeks. The other system has a great MSI GeF3 500ti that makes his world too, so other than trying to find a good deal for some PC3200 or PC3500 Ram that I can afford for the EP-8RDA+, I want to see what all I can do for our system to get even more bang for the bucks invested. Any leads, sugestions, walk-throughs, finger pointing....? Thanks! PS Must have been a Freudian slip in my original title, as instead of "O/C", I typed "O/D"!!!

Absolutely! Here's a program which will not only overclock your card, but basically installs the drivers written for the 9700 Pro onto it's addresses. It's called Riva Tuner 2.0 + SoftR9x00 + SoftFireGL Patches; http://download.guru3d.com/pafiledb....ile&id=163 the 9500 Pro is an excellent overclocker depending of course upon the make and model which will then determine the memory type used. If you look at the memory chips (unles their covered by RamSinks) and post it all here I can tell you exactly what type of memory you have and what to expect. |

Thanks! I already downloaded it but that was before I had to reinstall Windows XP Pro... Will look into it tonight and see what I can find. I basically strive to have the best PC available for my son who is into gaming - Battlefield 1942, Medal of Honor, etc. Can you tell he wants to be a Marine...

Try this http://www.entechtaiwan.com/ps.htm it's called Powerstrip, and I've yet to see a videocard it couldn't overclock. As a matter of fact, if you read the first few threads over there, (where Warp11 first released his Mod) you'll see Warp11 actually found and changed the hexidecimal code for his Mod, and used Powerstrip to verify it. So I'm almost positive it works very well with it. But I don't know how the mod works with every card. Anyway Powerstrip is one of the few (if not the only) videocard "tweaker" which actually get's into your card's BIOS, making adjustments the memory's timing! |

Powerstrip didn't work (you may have to do the BIOS update Warp11 wrote? Try this; http://www28.brinkster.com/chrisww1942/ By the way, you might be VERY HAPPY to learn that your card may in fact have Infineon 3ns DDR memory!!! So when you do find the right software, that thing should reach clockspeeds (memory at least) as high as 9700, and 9700 Pro. Good news eh? Here's another program, and if you haven't tried it, then perhaps you should try this one first; http://www.rage3d.com/r3dtweak/

Quick question, how do you tell what memory your 9500 Pro card has? I can see several chips on top but that is all. I do not want to remove the card or pry anything off... Thanks! PS Glad to see my old query still elicits input!

Look at the last pic. where the memory chip is. There's this numbers on the right corner. Those are your ns like 2.0ns and like that.

Here's a picture of my old ATI Radeon 8500 (64MB). See the four chips around the HSF w/covers the GPU (Graphic Processing Unit) those are your memory chips.

Here's a close-up (below) of a memory chip from the ATI Radeon 8500 (pictured above). On your card the memory brand will most likely be different from the pic below. Your's may read; Samsung, Infineon, maybe Hynix. Now the number to the far right, in the middle code string is indicative of the memory speed. On my Radeon 8500 I had Hynix 3.6ns, that's determined by the "36" see in the pic, below (actually it looks like a 35 but I'm sure it's 36). Except your's will most likely read Infineon, Samsung, Hynix, maybe Micron and should end with a "33" or "36" for 3.3ns, or 3.6ns respectively.
