Hey every1,
Ive managed to sell my good old Geforce 3 Ti200 and now i have about £170 to spend on a VC. I have found 2 that look like nice competitors. Firstly i found the Albatron Geforce 4 Ti4680 8x Turbo, here

The other option is the Hercules 3D Prophet 9500 Pro, here

Im torn between the 2 cus i have read outstanding reviews for both :P. Can you please advise me on which is the better of the 2. Any 3DMark results would be nice . I will also take suggestions on other cards around the same price range, and i am willing to do any mod on any VC, like the software mod for the radeons and any physical mods.

From what I understand, 8x capability alone is nothing of real value. This GF4 Ti4200 is long in the tooth. The 9500 Pro is a more modern design. Hercules has a good reputation for quality---or it used to, anyway. Hope this still holds true!

DX9 capability does have merit. I don't have hands-on with either of these Vidcards. What I read leads me to believe that the ATi 9500 Pro is the better choice. You might do a more exhaustive search before plunking down your 144 Sterling. The UK has to have nation wide retailers that give one a fantastic deal on Vidcards--at least once in a while!

I would go for the radeon 9500 pro since is awsome with AA and AF on. If you don't like using them then if I were you I still would get the Rad. 9500 pro which is more future proof because of DX9 and such. Oh and don't worry about the drivers, they don't have bugs as how they used to do.

ok, thanks for your help guys...dont suppose u know the tipical 3DMark for these cards, as i cant find any on the 9500Pro cus its combined with the 9700 scores aswell...i have a ruff idea of the Ti4200 average score, in the 13k kinda area...

It looks like Mad, er Futuremark's 3dMark03 is the acid test for modern Vidcards. Perhaps a comparison of the 9500 Pro and Ti4200 can be found somewhere. Hold on to your hat, 90 zillion in 3DMark01 equals 2000 in 3DMark03! It's not that bad, but 3DMark03 gives you scores that can be depressing when compared to good ol' 3DMark01. Be prepared.
