I'll try to change the exe file of 3dmark to "cheaters gone bad" later and see if the score falls or not.

According to a recent article in www.theregister.co.uk , or perhaps www.theinquirer.net , Nvidia wasn't actually cheating. So, if ATi and Nvidia were both not cheating... those 3dMark03 test scores make the mid to high priced ATi Vidcards look desirable!

I just ran the test using different exe from 3dmark03 using 8AF and the scores droped from 4409 (something like that) to 3325.

I haven't bothered with 3DMark03. A GF3 Ti200 probably can't even run the BM and I'm depressed enough already. Thanks a LOT, Futurenark!

I think it will only take effect with FX cards so don't try it.

Per application optimization eh?

Well, actually, it's something I'm in favour of! Why shouldn't we have per application optimization where the driver acts slightly different depending on the application. That way the driver can modify it's operation to best suit the application that's being run.

Of course, this also requires more than one application to be supported. Futuremark would be against it, as their benchmarks would not be able to fully demonstrate what the cards/drivers were capable of, so their benchmark wouldn't be of so much use.

So, why shouldn't we have drivers that do extra optimization for various applications/games to increase our framerate/quality/experience?

Weyell... it wasn't a typo. I just hate new BM's that "snitch off" my rig. I agree, I wouldn't dream of running '03 with my Ti200.

If both companies are cheating (which is what is happenin as far as i can gather) then surely it doesnt really matter unless one company is cheating more than another

Nvidia knows that there is a lot of people that judge the performance of a 3d card using 3dmark benchies so people can buy their cards, but I might be wrong.
