Zalman HP80a GFX card heatpipe and temps ..

Hi all,

Just an aside in some ways . I had a really noisy Creative Ti4400 geforce 4 card and decided to quieten it with the HP-80a heatpipe . After the complex install , it performed well with the GFX card clocked at 305/650 . One thing I`ve noticed tho is that system temps have gone from 28-30C to 34C with my Lian Li case fans at max rate. Taking the side off the case made no difference, in fact temps crept to 35-36c showing the importance of case airflow.

Of course you can get a separate fan for the heatpipe , but I`m not sure if this would lower system temps , merely recirculate the air . If your background ambient temp is warm , then this extra heat is not very welcome.

My card is silent now , which is a blessing , but as I`m getting more into OC`ing , the increased system temp is a bit of a bummer !

The temps arent much higher, whats the airflow in your case like now? Could you please describe it to us (fans model how mcuh cfm of air they blow etc and where they are blwoing it)

As a rule, more air should be going out than in.

Thanks,
Craig

Except for keeping a bit of dust out, what rule is that?

Ideally, exactly as much air should come in as what comes out...

Sorry Allan, I did not make my point clear, if you arent having fans blowing in you should have more air going out, more air always going out than in or equal in and out.

Ok..

Hi Guys ,

My case is a Lian Li PC65 with side window ..hence 2 intake 80mm fans at the front , one on the top blowing out , and one at the rear blowing out. So 2 in and 2 out .

I`m about to install an Epox 8RDA3+ mobo and a thermalright SLK800u heatsink with a Sunon 80mm fan , perhaps the overlap of the fan on the heatsink will help mobo temps a bit. Surely an increase of 4C of your system temp is going to have a knockon effect on your cpu temps ? I just didnt expect this level of system heat increase from the heatpipe , and I havent seen it discussed before.
