Exclamation ONE HUNDRED degree C Radeon...:/

'Lo everybody

I got me a broken fan on my radeon 9600PRO..its not overclocked but im guessing this is the best place for advice on this...

Just bought a super flower fan master, its got little thermocouple temp. probes, i stuck one on the GPU heatsink underneath the fan (which i had just BEFORE noticed wasnt working). When i turned my comp on the reading shot up and up and up and..well...it reading maxed out at 99 degrees CENTIGRADE, it was heading way higher though...

..out with the meccano..in with 2 case fans to cool the bugger..

I had noticed the fan wasnt working about 3 months before hand, but being a berk, i thought it may be temp. activated or something. (doh..) I have no problems running games or getting artifacts on screen. i cant really be arsed with the hassle of returning it as it means PC out of action for a while...shall i jus splash out on a new cooler and forget it ever happened?

What are the chances of my radeon having a very shortened lifespan by this incredibly (or so i imagine) harrowing experience?

Many thank4ne advice you can offer...

.Al

If it is going to die it will most likely do so real soon. If it is fine after a week it will probibly last for many more years. IMHO anyway.

If you swap out the fan yourself it may void any warrenty. If you are worried about it the safe thing to do is see if you can RMA it.

I had a leadtek card and the fan died on it. I tried to RMA it but the website I bought it from wanted me to pay return shipping. I contacted Leadtek directly and they gave me the option of sending back to them or haveing them send me a replacement fan. I chose to have them send me the fan and it came along with a blistir pack of white grease and an instruction sheet. Kudos for Leadtek. Maybe ATi will do the same. won't hurt to ask.

Instead of waiting on Leadtek I took an old K6 cpu cooler and stuck it on the GPU and left it there. Never had a problem.

You may just want to do that also.
