Hmmm.........I wouldn't say that. There are lots of people here who use and like NVidia cards. Thing is, the smart shopper bases their purchase on things besides just the brand name. ![]() |

The two cards are very closely matched in performance, AFAIK. nVidia seem to be more on the ball when it comes to drivers. ATI gives more bang per buck thanks to lower prices. |

According to digit-life.com's review the only diference between the GT and the Ultra is the GT is clocked at 350/500 (1000DDR) and the Ultra is 400/550 (1100DDR)

yea thats what i saw, but i wasn't sure if that was the ONLY difference. and its not JUST the brand name, but the brand name carries with it a few years of VERY acceptable cards, all 3 i've owned have been everything i wanted and more, plus performance boosts with EVERY driver release. All my old ATi cards made me cry for something else. Not to mention that Nvidias cards ARE performing better, not the cheap ones, but the better ones, and all the games I play WILL benefit from PS3(Vampire Bloodlines, HL2, DoomIII). Back when I remember all the ATi fans complaining how bad Nvidias PS2 was and now ATi says that PS3 won't be a big deal, so all the fans are agreeing of course *roll* and x800 is based on the existing technology, refined and pushed harder. They run REALLY hot and I dont think I want that +70oC overclocked thing heating up my water system X.x Running old technology is for current AMD's and cutting edge pentiums only ![]()

I have also owned both ATi and nVidia cards. I loved my Radeon 8500 and I hate my Radeon 9600. Both cards were bought from a price/performance stand point. I am going to wait until Doom 3 and HalfLife 2 come out befor I even think about a new card. I feel sorry for all the people that upgraded to a Radeon 9800 Pro last year just for the soon to be released Halflife 2.

I got to agree with you there. I run a PNY4400 and it takes every game that I throw at it just fine. Before that I had a TI200 and loved it. I haven't had any ATI's but I'd be willing to try one maybe once. I might wait just like Staz until after HL2 comes out to upgrade. Maybe it will be a 9800 pro, who know's, but I know I won't ever pay more than $150 for a card. I have a 5200 in my girls box and it seems to do just fine for the low end games they run. So I'm happy that they are happy. (Sim's, Zoo Tycoon and Age of Mythology) Never had any video probs what so ever. Rob

Never mind the linux drivers, which is why my machines tend towards nVidia. That's not exclusively true, but I've had less problems with GeForce than with Radeon. I don't have the time to screw around fixing stupid problems any longer, so I'm more likely to go with the option that works with ease. (Same goes for driver updates - unless they fix a bug I'm hitting, I'm unlikely to update drivers.)

yea i just stick with what i like, and i've seen atis and sure they're great and all but i mean intels are faster, but i dont buy them...besides I feel a lot of what i do and will want to do with end up in Nvidias hands anyways. That and the Linux and cooler issues. Theres a taste for all things and not everyone agrees. Though we can agree that gizmo probebly is a little antiquated.

I'm torn between the 6800 GT & the X800XTE myself.... Both companies (ATI & Nvidia) have their pro's and cons I suppose. In the past, ATI seems to run D3d games better and Open GL games run faster on Nvidia. This may still be the case?
