6800GT on 300W psu

does anybody have any thoughts on running 6800s on much lower than the suggested 480W psu? ive just ordered an albatron 6800GT 265mb to replace my aging TI4600 but im scared im going to be up for a new PSU as well. My current unit is a skyhawk 300W that cost me AU$120 a year ago and i dont particularly want to lose the thing.

its capable of 12A on the 12V rail.
system is 2400+ overclocked, 1 stick DDR400 512mb, EPoX 8k3a (AGP4X only) 2HDD (one unused can be removed) 1 DVD player 6 80mm case fans, audigy 2 non platinum and NIC.

if anyone has a 6800 on a low end psu (360W or less) can you tell me how its running

according to this page (i dont know how accurate it is but it seams very effective and well made) http://www.jscustompcs.com/power_supply/

i need 294W to power everything in this case with the 6800GT installed at absolute peak.

if this is so, then why the hell are there such ludicrous power requirements listed by nvidia for a card a mere 50W more than my TI4600.

Also, if they drain so much how the hell do they expect people to run 2 6800ultras in SLI?

any help / comments / experiences would be most welcome

I really cannot see it working on a 300W powersupply. By all means try, but I wouldn't hold much hope.

ive got a 450W "omegatron" that i paid $20 for but it only has 8 amps on the 12 volt rail compared to 12 on this one. nfi why but all its power is on +5V for some reason.

back when i used a peltier i had an extra 250W atx running it off the 12V rail, maybe i can get away with that until i can afford a new decent psu :\. having a spare psu hanging out the side of your case at lans looks 1337

I thought that nVidia had dropped the 480W PSU requirement, as things weren't as bad as they had thought they would be!

I just got the thing installed and set up.
Its going like a charm! overclocks like a dream too (450 / 1100)
i took the PSU apart and replaced the old fan with a TT smart fan 2 (4800rpm 80mm) and a panaflow 120 in the top. maybe a token gesture but the extra noise is reassuring.
hopefully its not going to die on me any time soon :\
