hopefully not. Thats the sliding part.
The top will slide so that the little metal fins holding it in place are left in the holes you can see in the lid.

Try and move the cover and see where its being stopped.

I puzzled for quite a while on some bits. Its hard at first but it dawns on you the more you fiddle.
Insert a screwdriver underneath the lids edge in different places to see where it does give a little. One of the places should lift over an obstruction that is stopping it sliding.
I hope

It occured to be that I cant see which way the fins are on the picture. It may slide the opposite way Sorry, its hard from this end.
It will slide in the direction the fins are pointing.

I'm likely to goto sleep pretty soon.
I dont mind continuing later if you get stuck.

Dont rush. Make a coffee if you're frustrated

omg it works =D before i put it back together i decided to try just the panel on the screen without having it in its original housing, and it worked fine. The casing must have been shorting it or something *shrugz*

drool the screen size is amazing, omg. the colours a little yellow unfortunately is my only complaint atm, but thats because of my wall, i put paper there and it appeared white and very nice.

have to tweak around with the settings, i also noticed i lost like 2 lines at the bottom of the screen, may have confuzzled it, its like i lose half of the size of the icons on the taskbar, thats not a big deal though.

now i have to study for my exam tomorrow lol

the a4 paper looks fantastic as a screen, i'm thinking i go to a specialised printing shop and try get them to somehow give me a couple of HUGE sheets of A4 paper, i'm sure someone has them =P

projection screens are too expensive, and a bedsheet, hmm, i tried it and it seems less sharp, the lights goes through it i think.

And i also need a trolley to put my projector and components on =P

Yaaawn/Streeeeetch (just got up).
Brilliant, glad you got it going.

Have you considered painting your wall? Its probably going to be cheaper, pretty good too, it doesnt tear and you can wash it

It'd be great if you can get some photos. Can you borrow a higher res camera?

Theyre supposed to last about 50 hours, but the one I'm using has lasted unbelievably long, its still going, what, 4 weeks after I started using it? And it might not even have been a new bulb since it came with the projector, which came off ebay and has some wear and tear.

Chernobyl (and anybody else), the 400w metal halide kits are now in stock. I'd like to buy one, but first I'd like to make sure that it would fit into the OHP. Did you have much trouble retrofitting the light Chernobyl? From looking back through this thread it appears it went off without a hitch.
It also seems that the 400w kit doesnt come with a UV stop like the 250w one does. Would I be able to buy a UV filter from a hardware store?

Your bulb sounds to be doing amazingly!

Wow thanks, hope he still has stock of the 400W systems on Tuesday.
I was looking at getting a screen from him too some time. They sound top class regardless of price (and they are cheap!). If you have trouble with ambient light or want a really bright picture but dont mind a 30 degree viewing angle, he has the glass bead screens. I will probably get one of those.
The screens are MASSIVE, hang from the roof, are electric and have a remote control. Cooool. Approx £150 delivered

There is easily enough space inside my OHP even with the height adjusting mechanism in place. I did have to flatten the tray the bulb sits on.
The only trouble I anticipate will be with cold mirror OHPs. You may need to remove the cold mirror to get the bulb in. A UV filter can replace the cold mirror.

I still get some UV effects on my LCD with the 250W UVstop bulb and the OHP bed glass in place. (mild burn in, goes away overnight. It is used for 16hrs a day, every day almost!).
If you have a 400W bulb with no UVstop, you must use a UV filter.
I would recommend it even if the 400W did have UVstop.
The guy selling the MH bulbs also sells UV filters, he normally has stock but not right now.
Glass is a fairly good UV Blocker if you are stuck.

lol, I cant believe I need to save up to buy a light bulb!

50 hours ? thats very disapointing
replacement bulbs are $45 here for a 36v 400w :

http://www.citysoftware.com.au/produ...PartNo=TMM2540

seems very dear if i'm its only going to last 50 hours. normal projectors have lamps of about 1000 hours or so, and are about $500 to replace ?

i'm a bit of a noob with the light sources, but with that 400w HID bulb you guys are talking about, how many hours would that last ? And i saw the picture of it, its got a ballast and you have to wire it in, would the actual bulb fit straight into the socket in my projector or how would that work ?

The 400W MH bulb will last 6000hrs.
To fit it you need to strip out the electronics for the old light and put a new kit in.
You can follow my progress here
Home made projector!
near the bottom and on the next page.

If you are unsure with electronics, get someone who is to wire it for you.

woah 6000 hours, thats definately what i want

just checked out your posts on stripping the lcd bulb, looks to be alot of cusotmisation work in fitting the actual bulb firmly into the OHP. not very confident in doing customisation work, i was hoping there was something i could slot straight into the existing placement, maybe run one or 2 wires and get long life with good output
