Question Flashing Leadtek 5900XT to 5950Ultra

I am still very uncertain about this... is it possible?

Don't do that, use coolbits instead ! Just my opinion!!!

I have a thread on here somewhere about flashing a 5900 to a 5950. I had some decent gains from when I did it. Increased voltage, higher clocks normally, and it seemed to like higher clocks all around. If you're using stock air cooling it has potential to make your card run cooler(it leaves the fan on higher all the time I think). Search for 5900 bios flash. Gizmo has my card now, hopefully he can attest that it still works.

If you fail you can use a PCI video card to flash it back...its not as bad as a failed mobo flash.

Hi gsi31099
You wont get an XT to perform as an Ultra, the BIOS's dont match. The components used are usually way inferior too.
The ideal card is the normal FX5900 (and a bit of overclocking luck) which can use the same BIOS as the FX5950 Ultra.

I ended up doing the same as Chrisbard, overclocking using coolbits.
After modding/flashing many BIOS's, only reaping small gains and a lot of heat, I went back to the original cards BIOS and simply clocked it. This is not the same as everyones experience, it depends on your luck.
My old XFX FX5900 used to run a bit faster than an Ultra with a cpu heatsink/fan bolted to it, using coolbits. It was a tad faster but very hot with certain Gainward and Leadtek 5950 bios's
I modded the original BIOS to supply higher Volts to the GPU. For me, this gave the same result as a 5950 BIOS.

I agree with what XeroHour says too.
The 5950 BIOS's vary quite a lot between models/manufacturers. The variances include (theres a lot that can change) Higher GPU volts and Slower ram timings for higher Ram clocking. This can be highly beneficial to some cards.

Unless you can get an FX5900, you are limited to modding the BIOS of your XT, trying other XT BIOS's or using coolbits.

Good luck whichever you try
