how 2 do a X800pro to X800XT PE mod

this was orgianally started off as a Poll from cadaveca in march
and you can access it here.
http://www.aoaforums.com/forum/showt...704#post285704

but anyways heres the info for the people who have these cards and want to
do the mod from X800pro to a X800XT to that you can use the full 16 piplines on your ATI restricted X800pro

you`ll need DrDos boot disk creator
http://paddy007uk.freeservers.com/VGAbios/drdflash.exe
FlashROM 2.37 + floppy creator: HERE
http://paddy007uk.freeservers.com/V...+Floppy2.37.exe
Gigabyte Flash utility & X800 XT BIOS: HERE
http://paddy007uk.freeservers.com/V...,0&at_a_time=50
Retail ATI X800 XT BIOS: HERE
http://paddy007uk.freeservers.com/VGAbios/X800XT.bin

**BEFORE FLASHING THE BIOS, MAKE SURE YOU MAKE A BACKUP OF YOUR OLD ONE**

******

To back up your BIOS: (Floppy 'A')

(a) Create a bootable floppy disc with flashrom on it by double clicking the Flasher+Floppy2.37.exe.

(b) Restart the PC with the floppy disc inserted & boot in DOS.

(c) Once activity has ceased you will be at the A:\ prompt, type the following command line to back up your existing BIOS:

flashrom -s 0 backup.bin

You now have a file on the floppy disc named 'backup.bin' this is your original BIOS which you may require at a later date.

(d) Remove the floppy disc & reboot the PC.

******

To flash to the Gigabyte X800XT BIOS for enabling the 4 locked pipelines (Floppy 'B')

(a) Create a bootable floppy disc by double clicking the DrDos boot disc creator.

(b) Unzip the Gigabyte Flash utility & X800 XT BIOS, then place the files on the floppy disc.

(c) Restart the PC with the floppy disc inserted & boot in DOS.

(d) Once activity has ceased you will be at the A:\ prompt, type the following command line to flash the BIOS:

GVF11 -p -f A:\r80x256v.f1

(e) Remove the floppy disc & reboot the PC.

*******

To flash to the ATI Retail X800 XT BIOS, for improved over clock (Floppy 'A')

(a) Insert floppy disc 'A' into into the floppy drive (leaving existing files in tact).

(b) Place the downloaded Retail ATI X800 XT BIOS ( X800XT.bin ) on to the floppy.

(c) Restart the PC with the floppy disc inserted & boot in DOS.

(d) Once activity has ceased you will be at the A:\ prompt, type the following command line to flash the BIOS:

flashrom -p -f 0 X800XT.bin

(e) Remove the floppy disc & reboot the PC.

******

I recommend you retain the 2 floppy discs for future use.

If you have followed the instructions carefully you should have a fully fledged ATI Radeon X800 XT 520mhz core / 560mhz memory.

Due to the heat generated by the additional 4 pipelines your maximum core over clock is likely to be reduced by on average 20mhz

have fun and be carefull most of all

Thanks for the info woodeirl.

However, when I flashed mine, I wouldn't recommend using the Gigabyte flash tool as flashing back using a non Gigabyte BIOS is a real pain. Personally, I'd recommend using flashrom.

Just my $0.02

ok, now this is good info, but i had started a thread on such earlier, and here's why:

I have modded 19 cards now, as of tonight, and almost all of them turned to XTPE's without a hitch(except 2).

First, you need to find out how much voltage your gpu is receiving. On the back of the card, close to the screw for the backplate, is a resistor all by it's lonesome self, or at least it looks that way to me, as there is quite a space around it with no components. Ground out your multi-meter, and touch the positive end to the end of the resistor on the slot side. You should get between 1.37 and 1.41. If you have one of the lower ones, rock-on.. you have a real XTPE*(cards with 1.41 have not successfully modded for me). If your card only has 1.31(most early models do), you need to do a voltamod first. I recommend picking up a "Cold Heat" wireless soldering iron to do the trick.

*Note: This is assuming that you have already confirmed that your card is a vivo, has the 1.6ns samsung ram, and no lasercuts on the gpu

Now, you have a bunch of options on how to proceed....

1. You can do the gigabyte flash...and then flash back to pro, or a XTPE bios.
High success rate.

2. You can download a modified "flashrom" utility, which i will upload to the forum here, which will allow you to just flash the XTPE bios, and get the 16 pipes(sometimes even the gigabyte flash does not work, as the bios is hard-locked, and some versions of flashrom do not do a full transfer, and retain some settings, such as the number of active pipes).

3. You can flash an empty bios(breaks down any locks ATI or OEM's may have placed), and then the XTPE bios from the same manufacturer as the card you already have, before rebooting. Highest success rate.

Of course, you want to make sure that you card will do XT speeds first, without artifacts, and does not cause a system failure, or freeze.

Card causing your system to freeze? Try method # 3...even got the 2 failed cards running. I have not had a card yet that has not made it into XTPE land...every one has made the grade. Each one did recieve and ZM80D-HP for cooling tho.
