ATI to stop 9800 PRO

IN an announcement today, ATI has said that they will stop production of the R360 based 9800pro, to be replaced bu the R410 and R430, each featureing the Rialto AGP bridge chip. According to the INQUIRER , production on such cards will cease by the time CEBIT rolls around, although my sources tell me it may be a couple of weeks earlier. THe new chips are in 110nm flavor, so should rival the cirrent products available under the 9800pro and x800 monikers in both heat production and power comsumption, and if done right, possibly better overclockers.

from the INQUIRER:

Quote:
R430 is known as X800 XT or standard while RV410 is known as X700 and I guess that AGP versions of those chips won't differ much in naming conventions

Good news, Thanks cadaveca.

Any news on the specs of these new chips?

Same as the pci-e variants. X800 and X800XL AGP as well as x700 agp. I'm curious to see how the rialto plays a role, as these chips are 16x pci-e... I wonder what sort of agp bus speeds they can handle.

It's not like the X800 costs anywhere near the same as a 9800 Pro. I'm not rolling in money, $700, my butt!

the current x800 is supposed to come pretty close to what the 9800pro was priced at in september, with the x700 to fill the 9700's gap.

9000/9200 replaced with x300
9500/9600 replaced with x600
9700 replaced with x700
9800 replaced with x800
9800xt replaced with x850.
