Budget gaming - XFX5900XT

With the dawn of Nvidia's 6 series GPUs, mid-range performance has increased significantly. However not everyone can afford the (associated) price tag for a decent 6600GT or a vanilla 6800. We join Dave Howes on a journey into the world of budget gaming.

Good stuff! Thanks Monkeyman!

How about a key to the last table showing what the settings were in test 1 to 4?

Nicely done Dave! A reminder that not everything good has to have a price tag that puts it out of reach of many of our members!

Another good choice for low/mid range is the 9700pro, £88 for a full DX9.0 card can't be bad

Whoops - I knew I forgot something! Sorry 'bout that - I'll see if I can find time to fix it.

I found recently that my Radeon 9800 pro 128MB is under $100 now.
It is a pretty good card. I bought it a year and a half ago for $205.
It runs Half-Life 2 on Medium settings at 1024X768.
It also Runs Call Of Duty 2 but it plateau's at the Direct X 7.0 settings.
It laggs big time when I set Direct X to 9.0 on some levels.
Great Card. Thinking of buying another one and running Cross-Over.

Cross-over?

If you are referring to Crossfire, the 9800 doesn't support it.
