Nvidia G70

for all those of you who haven't realised what a gossipy, unreliable source of half lies hlaf jibberish the inquirer is, I present to you the following.

http://www.theinquirer.net/?article=22645

For a start the name makes no sense, current generations are NV4x and R4xx, as in nvidia's 4th gen and radeon 4th gen
now it's accepted that ati's next gen will be R5xx, makes sense, and most people expect nvidia's to be NV5x
So why in hell would it be called G70, what the hell would G represent, and why 70?

If this turns out to be even remotely close to the truth I will eat a hat!

I seriously wish the inquirer would just shut the hell up and go away. They dont know anything at all, and I know where they got their information, and its only half true.

There is a chip, or at least a variant of an existing chip, called the G70. If you take one of the current drivers in the 75 series, and open the .inf file with a text editor you will see the G70 listed.

That said, i would very seriously doubt that it is the new Geforce series.

Nvidia has launched 5 new variants of card since the 6 series.

The new model Quadro.
The new Geforce 6 GO.
The new Turbocache GF6s.
The new SLI codename designation.
The new Nvidia intergrated graphics chipset.

I am sure one of those is the G70.

What?!? and pass up on the marketing BONANZA that would be a chip called:

GEFORCE 6900

Some dude: "what kind of graphics card do you have"
Me: "Dude, ive got an NVIDIA 69er bro"

Nvidia marketing slogan "Feel the power of 69!!!"

And it would work brilliantly on the immature little boys that are video card buyers.

Hmm, ive just looked up the big book of CHIP IDs, and noticed that in the past, Quadros have been labeled as GLs.

Nvidia has no name for the chip that is the Quadro FX 4000 SDI edition. Its the first PCI-E Quadro GL SDI card. And it was released to the public on April 12. That date would tie in with the date that the drivers started to feature a G70. I dont know for sure, but its definately a possibility.
http://nvidia.com/page/qfx_4000sdi.html
http://www.nvidia.com/object/IO_20375.html

The previous Quadros were GL designation, this one isnt a GL, but is a quadro, ties in with the time frame, and is a completly new type of card. I would seriously doubt they will scrap the NV naming system.

interesingly enough, who knew that a 6800GT or U has its normal name, but when you put two of them in SLI, they lose their chipname, and become a BR02?

Here Here!

Seriously they wouldn't know journalism if it bit them on the arse. I know where they got this article from. It was from another tech forum, that I wont advertise, but which has an unusually high level of pre-pubecent males in its member list.

Picking up BS that you read while trawling random forums, IS NOT research. Im sending them an email about it now. Im sick of their crap at this point in time, and im going to let them know that I found their "source" and am not impressed.

It isnt that they are making up facts on a high traffic website. Its that in telling these tall tales, they confuse readers everywhere and cause problems like this. A large number of people that are thinking of buying a new graphics card and happen to read that, are going to hold off and wait for it now when they seriously have nothing to wait for at this stage.

Dual core isnt out yet but we know it exists, so its worth considering a wait for. A product that DOES NOT EXIST yet and hasnt been anounced, is vapourware until it has either been confirmed, or announced.

BOTTOM LINE: the inquier is nothing more than an online rag, and deserves to be ignored and is ignored by any real gamer/techie, which is the way it should be!

There are going to be mobile phones later this year powered by nvidia 3D mobile accelerators, it would not be abnorma; to assume that the same unified drivers will be able to be updated on thes emobile devices just like pc's

G70 could be codename for a mobile gpu
