need suggestions

my birthday is coming up in a few months and i want to get a new processor hopefully stay opn my socket 478 mainboard but i wanted to know if i should get new processor motherboard that supports sli and get another 6600gt and run that in sli with my other one???

Hmm. Well there are no S478 SLI boards, you would need an LGA775 chip for that.

And you can't use your current 6600GT for sli as it's an AGP card, they need to be PCI-E

Honestly it's not worth upgrading that system, 3ghz is a good speed, the fastest you can get is a 3.4ghz, and I'm not sure how well they overclock already being on an 800mhz fsb, so thats a 13% increase in speed for the princely sum of £161/$291

for that kind of cash you could get a socket 939 board and venice 3000+ which would be a massive boost in comparrison which would be my suggestion

SLI is going to mean new cpu, new board and new graphics card and really isn't worth it. SLI makes most sense when putting two of the top end cards together for ultimate performance, for people who don't know the meaning of the price/performance ratio

Unless you have aspirations of dual 7800's I'd stick with a single card for now
