| Pfff!! Well then that was a wasted half hour. Might as well go back to onboard then. Ah well, worth a shot anyhow. Guess I should chuck this old card anyhow, its just taking up space in a Rubbermaid tub anyway. And what are the odds I'd run into you here mchart? Hmm? ![]()

| greetz, I'm new here first I'd like to give some credit to DSIO for making this )my question is: is it worth to try this softmod on my Live! 5.1 Platinum (with Live drive IR), I mean, would the drive work on that drivers (drive is the same as audigy drive). thanks in advance

| I really don't think it would. That said, if you used the NGO modified driver set we have on our files site under creative drivers, you might get some added EAX performance and quality.

| While you're at it, have a poke around the drivers section. We can usualy hook you up with some new drivers to squeeze that little extra out of your GPU and motherboard setup, and have alot of great overclockers here. Welcome and all.

| Hey, Is it normal, for having done the mod, to have an Audigy2 ZS listen in the device manager? I have an audigy2 and I did the procedure with the modded drivers and such. I uninstalled and deleted everything listed. I went through the installation and got a few choices. I chose to install the whole package with drivers and I got a creative splash screen which turned into another driver install. Installed it all and then continued with the rest of the modded driver. When all that was finished I rebooted my PC and here we are. Maybe it's just me but I had a bit of trouble getting through the article. What's the deal with this omitting thing? I didn't really omit anything nor got a chance to do so.

You must understand that creative recently released a driver update that applies to Audigy, Audigy 2, Audigy 2 ZS, and Audigy 4 cards. So essentially, if your using the official latest creative update, your card is using the Audigy 4 drivers. The only difference are the apps, which most people dont even use anyways, since all the sound settings can be changed by using the windows sound control panel. On top of that, as I previously mentioned, these hacked drivers will not enable DTS or AC3 decoding if your card does not support it in the first place. Sure, the drivers will let you select the checkbox that says DTS Decode, but the hardware decoder on your physical card doesnt exsist. So to sum it up - Installing the hacked drivers is absolutely worthless, and will only cause more problems. You will not see an improvement in sound quality, you will not see any signifigant performance improvents, you will not get features such as DTS or AC3 decode if your card didnt support it in the first place, and you will loose support in many newer games that require the latest creative drivers to work (Prey, Quake4, Doom3). I will once again note, I really wish the original poster would modify his post to represent these findings, because not everyone reads the entire thread.

| Yet I've had no problems using it on more than 6 seperate occasions, as have over 2,600 people that have not complained at all. This does not enable features that are not present at a hardware level. That is something that should have been extremely obvious from the outset. It does however cause creative's unified driver package to consider the card differently, which does in fact make a difference, as Creative uses its drivers to differentiate performance and sound quality between cards that area nearly identical. Similarly, Nvidia uses drivers to turn things off, and downgrade Geforce 6 cards, in order to seperate them from Geforce 7 cards. Since recent drivers were released that treat them identically, Geforce 6s now support Geforce 7 abilities such as TRSS AA, and have greater image quality. This does not, and I must make this clear, change anything other than the suite, and how creative's drivers consider the card. Furthermore, my Audigy and my Audigy 2 ZS both work perfectly under Doom 3, Quake 4, and Counter-Strike: Source, so I have absolutely no clue why you can't seam to run them. What I will do however, is update the file with the latest version later today.

Yes, the creative driver package does discriminate, but the core code is essentially the same. Using the Audigy 4 drivers on an Audigy 2 should not, and will not give you performance improvements. Anyone that is actually saying that these hacked drivers are giving them major uber performance gains is nuts, and same goes with audio quality. You have to understand that the ONLY difference between an Audigy 2 and an Audigy 4 are - DTS Encoding, and just overall better components used on the chipset. So obviously, using the audigy 4 drivers is not going to auto-magically give you performance and sound quality gains. I dont know why i'm even argueing about this anymore, the benchmarks prove exactly what i'm saying. And the comparison to video cards is completely different in this case. You arent going to get any extra enabled features by installing these hacked drivers, nor are you going to enable hardware features that may have just been 'turned off'.

| would this fix the buggy drivers with teh audigy 2 nx? the current problem im having now is that the stupid CMSS settings dont stick after a reboot. id much rather have dual stereo front and rear, instead of the surround sound effect they have going on. keep in mind that this is in an in car environment.

| I don't believe it would do that, sorry. If you create a new thread about your problem, we might be able to help you out mate.

| To anyone still having trouble I had the same problems with the driver not installing & crap. what you need to do is run the main file... once it extracts, go to C:\newyear2005 i think, & copy EVERYTHING to a seperate directory, because the program deletes it afterward, and you'll need this to do a manual. before proceeding with the installer, go to c:\(yourcopy)\NewYear2005\YouP-Drivers\Drivers\ run the exe file inside & click to install drivers & Check to overwrite any existing ones.. then windows will ask you to verify due to unsigned drivers, and click continue, and bodda bing. no restart required! and ps... audigy 2zs ---- totally worth it especially on my x-530's! If anyone needs more help, just IM me @ japanesecowboy14@ aol, hotmail,or yahoo, only hotmail for e-mail's though!

| I tried this out and it didn't work for my old Creative Audigy (SB0090) Sound Card. All it did was make it to where I had no sound, but I gave it a go anyways just to see. ![]() No harm done. Just reinstalled my other drivers.
