Why the X-Fi will not be in PCIe "As far as PCI Express (PCIe) is concerned, which is the next bus, what we found is that the performance of PCIe is truly bad for audio. We are seeing four times degradation on the bus for audio." full story here: http://www.guru3d.com/newsitem.php?id=3005

More like, "We will wait until another audio company makes a PCI-E card, then we will assimilate them. We have analysed your defences as not being able to withstand us. Drop your shields and prepare for assimilation. Resistance is futile."

"PCI-Express isn't that widely adopted yet and many systems that ship with PCI-Express already have onboard sound. Most OEMs won't ship a more expensive card when the onboard sound works just fine, so we see no reason to release a PCI-Express card right now. However, we won't say that straight out as the market analysts might realise we're looking at a shrinking market."

This isn't too surprising, it took forever to move from ISA to PCI, until cards actually start needing the bandwidth or boards stop coming with PCI slots then there ain't a problem sticking with good old PCI |
