Exclamation NVIDIA: 1st GPU 1 Billion Transistors 2008

Some of my friends tell me they cannot believe how far games are, regarding graphics and similarity with the real world. I often tell them that in several years things will go even further. Today I found out that some other ppl think ahead and know better !

"Nvidia CEO Mr. Huang, who co-founded Nvidia in 1993, predicted innovations in the graphics industry. "In 10 years, you won't see a difference between a video game and a movie," he said, after screening a film clip that showed how far computer graphics have come since his company opened.

Putting up a slide with a frame from one of the Spider Man movies, Huang said current technology requires a long time to render such a high quality graphic. But in a decade, such rendering will be done in real time, he said.

The chips required to handle such work would need billions of transistors. Nvidia sees its graphics processing units (GPU) crossing the 1 billion transistor mark around 2008, from just 302 million transistors in its latest GeForce 7 series GPUs, he said. By comparison, the company's first offering in 1993, the NV1, carried only 1 million transistors.

The number of transistors on an Nvidia GPU could grow to 5.4 billion by 2013, he said, but the chip industry needs to work on reducing the amount of power a chip needs in order to put that many transistors on one piece of silicon.

Cutting-edge chips with hundreds of millions of transistors are simply running too hot, he said. "We will have to create the devices to cool these chips," he added. There are several ways companies are reducing power leakage, such as using dual cores or using slower transistors, he said, adding he's confident the chip industry will continue to find new ways."

that would mean two things
A: We can use superconducters for the power
B: The chips are muhc cooler.

I still haven't learned to type, but I can poke and peck my way through... Which browser are you using? A good FREE spell check can be found in AOA FILES... I never leave my mind without one!

Try typing slower and check before you post, its really hard work to read what you write if people are just flicking through the threads yours will end up getting ignored if people need to use the NSA's decryption department to read them.

Not flaming you, just trying to be constructive.

Don't worry too much about it i think your writing is quite readable, I first jumped on a computer when i was 16 and now im getting towards 20, according to typing tutor software i can type around 78 words per minute at 98% accuracy But that's on a good day.

Iv'e found it's good practice while on your pc to try and use the best spelling and grammar as you possibly can or you may find yourself writing something down on a piece of paper and having huge sentences(i still do sometimes) and lol everywhere

2 years... I learned in 10 weeks... (1992 Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing 4.0 for Dos 1.1 U.S. Navy CTO A School).
Granted I was pounding on the keyboard for 4 to 8 hours a day for the first 2 weeks taking the typing tests (and learning the keyboard)... then the last 8 weeks was the actual A school.
I went from 0 words per minute to 35 words per minute....still a couple of errors but thats what the backspace key is for

Mavis Beacon Teaches Typing can be found here for $19 and thats est price could be lower online...
http://www.broderbund.com/shopping/s...Teaches+typing

I definitely recommend it for anyone that is currently going to school and needs assistance in typing.

Oh yeah I currently push around 108 wpm with 1 to 2 errors per sentence (I like the backspace key).

Boy I hated one of my former bosses when he asked me to type using all 10 fingers but now I am more than happy ! NSA would not be able to decript all, they aren't that good !

I never used any learning programs to type, I simply saw a freind use homeroom once, then when you play Broodwar or on AIM for the whole summer, you tend to pick things up rather well...
