6800gs Agp

allright, after finding out that my warranty was still good on my GT i looked for 3 days at my house and stores to find some similar screws to put the fan shroud back on my BFG cooler but no luck. so im going to buy my self a 6800GS AGP this weekend/first of next week. Whats the difference between the XFX and the eVGA version of this card besides the price? I know that eVGA now has a lifetime warranty on their cards now but i dont know if that really matters.

xfx has the same warranty, and offers swapping the warranty to someone else show you decide to sell it.

EGVA offers the trade-up program for 90 days after purchase, with the full purchase price of your product going towards the price of your upgrade. They also offer a lifetime warranty.

The XFX 6800GS AGP is teh shiznit.

I unlocked 1 vertex shader and 4 pipelines with rivatuner so now I have a 6800GT with DDR3 memory I also got the core to 400 and there's still more headroom. No artifacts, no problems whatsoever. I'M HAPPY!!!!

Keep in mind, at the end of the day, its still an NV40. Same as the 6800GT/U/UE/LE. It will not OC any better than any other NV40 cards, and will probably not OC as high as the GTs/Us.

Now, the 6800GS cards with the massive overclocks you are seeing are the PCI-E versions. They are NOT the same thing. The PCI-E version is a far better overclocker, as its on the better 110nm process, however it has 12 pipelines only, and is completely impossible to unlock.

So... the AGP is better because it unlocks, which outweighs the greater overclocks you get on PCI-E.

i went with the GS because you cant get any GT's any where for a decent price and my GT never really OC'd to ultra speeds. it sucked as an overclocker, so im hoping for better results from the GS

I beg to disagree.

I have yet to see a non-voltmodded + aircooled, GT beat an SLI'ed GS. The GS PCIE is a killer. With SLI, I can play all games at 75 fps (only because VSync is locked, else there is more) 16x AA, 16x AF, full trilinear filtering..basically everything maxed out.

I don't think an unlocked GS AGP can touch a PCIE GS. If you think it can, lets set up a friendly competition

On a NV47 pcb, DSIO(pci-e variant, unsure about the AGP). the pcb provides better voltages than the standard NV40 pcb, and hence the high clocks people are seeing.

Excellent point! In fact it is exactly the same PCB used for the 7800GTX

What a stupid comparison. Of course it won't beat a pair of SLI GS cards...

Dave, I know. The PCI-E variant isnt an NV40 either.

The PCI-E version is an NV42 110nm chip.
the AGP version is an NV40 130nm chip.

They are completely different parts.

there was only one overnight shipping selection from FedEx, but there is no option on newegg that asks if you want saturday delivery, but on fedex's site you have to pay an addtional fee for saturday delivery. so i wasted and extra $20 dollars for nothing

Dude, I have an AGP motherboard so naturally I couldn't care less for SLI, for me there was no better card for the price than a 6800GS AGP. I could have bought a couple pci-E GS's but they wouldn't fit my slots
