I hope so. but that card ain't that old yet...you'll see. mind you, 90nm gpu's are running lower volts than cpu's, so that may be an adequate trade-off, but i don't think it's quite that balanced.

As well yield rates on 90nm gpu's are pretty low...like almost only 50% fully operational..that's atrocious. lots of low-end "disabled" cores, and not alot of top-end cards says ALOT, Mr 7300GS.

Oh, and my earlier comment about stock-holders was not ATI stockholders, but TSMC's. This foundry is on it's way out, albeit kicking and screaming.

Im still Mr. 6800GT. The 7300GS isn't even going to be used in 3D mode. Fact is, I needed a PCI-E computer for testing purposes, since I've been borrowing boards when needed up until now. And I needed a cheap video card to go in it.

So, I have a XMDIA or something 7300GS, and a Gigabyte single PCI-E 16X mobo for under AU$200, with a 5 year retailer warranty bundled.

Cheap owns.

I agree...and the mid- and budget-range cards perform quite well, from both sides of the fence, although i do have to say that the 6600LE I have in the wife's machine fares far better than the x1300 HM, at least for the little i played with the x1300.

My major motivation was all of the hardware video decoding features you get on the 6/7 series bottom of the range, and the ATI X1 series bottom end. All the same junk you have on the top end cards is there. I don't understand it all yet, as video decoding has never been something I have looked into, but it seams to have all the right acronyms and buzzwords.

I've tried to use it, but the current APP doesn't seem to actually use the vidcard yet for encoding...you'd think the gpu would get at least slightly hotter than idle...but it didn't. That being said tho, it has been a month or two since i tried the Avivo encoder.

The tradeshow season is into full swing, and i'm a busy beaver, nevermind with the move and all. I'm not going to have much time until May to explore these cards much further ohter than the review I'm currently working on.

It's actually pretty sickening how powerful the high-end cards really are, regardless of all the complaints heard. And two of them...lol.

But as I have said earlier, you can see the quailty dropping. I'm actually hoping ATI can find a way to get out of thier contract with sapphire, as something is amiss...

I've seen 2 cards now myself, and 6 on the internet...x1k series with black marks appearing on the edges of the pcb after extended usage(12+ hours continuous). either they know of the problem, and dropped warranty length because of it, or maybe they planned it so DX10 gets adopted easier. Either way, something is amiss with the newest videocards.

Well, not quite a 7900, but I have one of the new 7600GTs on order for my work machine. 12 pipes, 5 vertex units, and a high core speed.

Its an eVGA or something generic, $210AU OEM from the distributor, which isn't bad at all. Performance should be close to my 6800GT.

Wow, those things make me wish I'd have waited a month or so on my new PC, now I'm stuck with the 7800GT :P
But 1600 memory clock! that's unheard of for a stock timing, I wonder how much they'll cost over here in the US...

about the 90nm, my GTX (which isn't 90nm I know) will give me a uch higher clock I have it at 516 or something and it's stock 430, it can go much higher but it starts to get artifacts.

The value is simply brilliant. With that clockspeed, it should be considerably faster than 6800GS/6800U cards, and costs about the same as a 6600GT.

Will be very interested to see what kind of headroom for overclocking it has.

Compared the to X1800GTO's 256bit.

This could be interesting.
