7900gtx http://www.dailytech.com/article.aspx?newsid=915 Let's see if this holds true. Looks fairly accurate to me.

Will the 7900GT be cheaper than a 7800GTX?

The 7900GT is said to be under $400US. The 90nm chips are cheaper to produce and are giving better yeilds. 90nm = mad overclocking.

Don't think that becasue 90nm cpu's can clock well, that gpu's will do likewise. In essence, all gpu's are multi-core processors, split into quad's of pipelines. Part of what makes current 90nm dual-core cpu's is the size of the sinlge processor itself, while gpu's may be too large to be able to keep the variance in quality close enough to allow super-high clocks. And not all 90nm cpu's clock well either. From what I've seen, 90nm ain't so great. 10% overclocks on vidcards are gone... Quote:
With Vista. I don't see any new cards coming anytime soon. The architechure of even how visuals are displayed has changed, so much so that anything we really consider "fast" is about to change, as even the processing needs have changed. BUt...those needs aren't public yet. Current offerings give HD gaming, and quite easily, i might add. Based on what's needed, and wanted, the graphics themselves don't need much improvement...actual processing power for other tasks that get those graphics onscreen that does. And this also easily translates to the needs of the IT market... which bodes quite well with the likes of Intel and AMD. Computers are old and stale, with nothing new in quite some time. Companies are scrambling to keep customers...and if thier products were more reliable, they'd make less money. No new innovations? Reliability not cost effective? I don't like what i see in the future. After seeing Ageia demos...we don't need better graphics. the current "900" series from either of the two major companies meets if not exceeds almost every need. Except the need to keep the money flowing. ATI and nVidia need contracts for consoles for a reason. And i think nVidia made a big mistake in not being fully responsible, as ATI was, for thier console gpu. But ATI has problems with TSMC. If I was a stockholder, I'd be pulling out fast. Somethings gonna explode soon...don't wanna get hit by the shrapnel.

Well, from what I've seen, from my Nvidia 90nm card in my HTPC box, is that they do overclock well. 150Mhz isn't bad for crap cooling. Though the 7300GS is a little short in the pipeline department, it does give an idea of how they run. Perhaps 10% overclocks are gone, but I think the 30% overclocks arn't bad at all. We will see when it comes out, but I am reasonably convinced it will OC like a demon.

Well, the only reason I was going to go for an 80 was DX10...I'd heard early-mid summer, then you guys said late summer-early fall....then it'll release with Vista. Does anyone really, definitively know?

I'll let you know when I see things available on the market...

well, honestly, it truly depends on Vista, as the hardware needs software to support it. I have said other times, in the past, for DX10 cards, which was always based on when the Vista released was planned, but in light of what i have seen going on with Microsoft, nobody can accurately state when DX10 will be here...it's up to he courts and M$. Every time M$ gets sued because of something in Vista, hardware gets delayed as welll.

Death = RMA. I've got a 5 year extended retailer warranty as part of the motherboard / GPU combo I bought, on both items. If anything happens, thats their problem. Rest assured, if the card artifacts, freezes, coughs, or so much as looks at me funny, its going to be RMAed.
