new card for me i think

hi all,
in my journey to get the 'ultimate' system, i'm looking to buy a new graphics card. Thing is, i'm not sure whether i want an ATi or an Nvidia. I want to be able to run FarCry with settings maxed out (using the ingame settings, not the other tool) and have HDR. I'm not too fussed about AA, but HDR is a must. I'm looking for about 45FPS ideally although 35FPS is minimum. It needs to be PCI-E, but SLi or Crossfire isn't nesessary. Budget isn't a major thing, i just need some idea of an ideal card. I also want to be able to run 3dmark05, and 3dmark06 (when i get a processor and memory upgrade).

Anyone got any recommendations for me?

Thanks,
Scott.

geforce 2 MX

Just kidding

I think anything from a 6800 upwards will do that for you.

However, if you have the money, then X1900XT is the one you want!

A cheap 6800 Ultra if you can find it. I've seen them on Ebay for quite a nice price

So 6800 Ultra! Those are pretty hard to come by as far as i have seen, except on ebay. But since i only got £80 pay this month, guess i'll have to wait, since i'm considering getting a new side panel, some colored film for it, and some frosted effect film as well, Uberleet

Guess i'll have to wait.

If my X1800XT has any indication about the X1900Xt preformance, and an influence of my opinion....then Pitch is right, you wont regret making the decision.

X1900GT looks somewhat more interesting.

Last I heard, the GT wasn't going to be available as retail, OEM only.

The GTO, however will be, based on RV570, it looks to be smiler in spec, but based on 80nm tech. Not sure when it'll hit retail mind..

X1900XL is also due soon. Will be an underclocked XT/XTX with full core functionality.

OEM cards are inevitably available from ebay etc. The 6800GTOs were a similar affair.

True dat.

Shame they used the god awful X1800XL cooler.

Do they even test the things?!

ATI is in Canada. You could have a midget blowing on it and it would stay cool up there.

That's why I love it!

X1900GT is X1900XT/X missing the power regulation to make a spped-change during 3D-rendering, much like the X1800XL is a 256MB X1800XT...at least some of them.

And guess what...I'm trying to sell my X1800XT. That should tell you what I think on the whole situation.

DSIO, the memory on these boards, as well as the components, speak volumes as to what these cards were originally meant to be. Unfortunate for those trying to mod stuff to get more performance, there just so happens to be a missing BGA component on these boards that no hand can solder, for cards that aren't what they were meant to be.

Sadly enough, this is why there is such attention focused on these lower-grade cards, as people know that these 80nm chips have been ordered, and everyone wants to know how well the new process performs( ie. M$)!

After doing some research into this new card i got to say it's vasty superior to anything Nvidia has in the market at the moment. Forget my 6800Ultra idea and save your money and get this video card when the price drops.

So now i know, Nvidia is of Spanish origin, and ATi is of Canadian origin. I may get an OEM card as the price they cost compared to retail, that's a lot of extra dosh for me to spend on something else! It just doesn't have all the extra bit's i'll never use, like TV output, i'm not going to need this, ever, and if i do, i've still gots some from my 6200A, yes, the AGP one, and what i have now, the 6200TC. slightly off topic, but i think that with the games i could run on my old rig, it was better than the 6200TC. Anyway, i should get a x1900GT? or did i miss something (i'm still tired because i've missed out on 48hours worth of sleep, even though i've just had 14 hours in bed. went to castleton in derbyshire with loads of lads from our school, for a GCSE booster class. No sleep because everyone wanted to drink, smoke and come and wreck our room...because there was no lock on the door!)?

I don't know why the teachers bother, teenagers at my age can't be bothered to do anything at the moment.

Well we only did 1 revision session, the rest was about multiple intelligences, and how there weren't just 3. Apparently, i'm Intrapersonal (myself smart/work best on my own) and kinaesthetic (body smart/learn when i'm on the move). The rest was doing climbing at an activity centre, working as a team, which i can do but usually get shouted at because i do something that they think is wrong. typical mates.

Right people, i'm looking for a card, preferably ATI since they're better at Direct X, that's PCI-E. Ideally, it wants to be able to run FarCry at highest settings with some HDR, and cost about £120 or less. What card would you recommend me then?

Not sure if you'll be able to play Farcry with HDR at full settings on a card for £120 or less, but you never know there might be a bargain lurking somewhere.
