i just installed and fully unlocked a Leadtek 6800le. I installed nvidias 91.28 because i didn't know at the time that the XG version was out already. without any overclocing I had a score of 4720 in 3DMARK05. i then removed the drivers to install the XG version so i could overclock.
first thing i notice when i went to change clock speed was the cpu and mem were already set at 405/902. i then proceded to increase to 410/910 and i had a 33.. score in 3DMARK05. I put the speeds back to normal 405/902 but i was never able to get 4720 score back.

Any clue why the score went down so drastically? are nvidia's drivers better than XG drivers?

Something is a bit wrong there.

Either, you have AA / AF enabled, and thats doing it, or you havn't unlocked the card again since changing drivers. I think that is probably what it is.

well actually no, i didn't try to unlock the card again. i didn't know that changing the drivers had anything to do with riva tunner settings, but i just checked and i see that everything is unlock. as far as the 3dmark test i didn't enable AA next time i run it all make sure of it. i don't even run cpu test. just the 3 GPU tests.

Cards are unlocked at a software level via to NVstrap driver, rather than a hardware level. As a result, removing the driver / changing the driver can reset the unlock.

so how do i go about this now then, lock it and unlock it again or remove riva tunner and installing it again.

I'm not completly sure you are correct...After installing the new drivers I went back to RT and it showed unlocked...16x6.

I did have to push my OC back up...

I will double check...

If in doubt uninstall the NVStrap>reboot and reinstall...then unlock again...

There is definatly something with this driver that allows a little higher clocks....I still think I am down a frame or two in Doom and HL2. But I can also crank up AF without a big hit...So I gain quality...I really see this in HL textures...Maybe it is just me..

i agree i also was able to add another 16 mhz on the core with no issues...i dont get how thats possible though...

I was able to get another 20mhz on the core, and i dont really care how they did it, i am just glad they did.

I haven't matched my progress to drivers, sorry should have paid more attention....I actually didn't expect to see any REAL improvements this late in the game...live and learn...

But I've seen my O/c's go from 400 at 1.6 to 430 at 1.8

I get a bit of screen flashing so back off to 420 @ 1.7

Standard cooling on the card except that I used Silver Arctic.
